A/C Cools Great While Driving Not at Idle

    Hello all!
I have a 2009 Tacoma Pre-Runner with 150K. I changed out the AC compressor because the clutch on the old one was making a noise. Now the new compressor works great while driving but temp from air from vents gets warmer during idle. Could the charge be inadequate or is the compressor not up to snuff?

US spec Tacomas don’t have an electric fan to assist while not moving, so they will generally be a bit worse parked vs driving

what is the ambient temp and the vent temps stopped and moving?

is your mechanical fan clutch original to the truck?

    Outside temps?

If the compressor is running at idle and there is a wide temp split, it may just be dumping as much heat into the refrigerant as it can. At some point all A/C units become saturated [home units just look for around a 20F temp split between return and conditioned air] and can do no more. 100f return, 80f conditioned, 80f-60f conditioned, 70f-50f conditioned. Input temps are very important.

Are you running recirculate or pulling fresh air in? Once the cabin is cooled down, recirc is far more efficient holding colder temps due to lower input air [already cooled cabin air] and humidity. Remember, humidity control is a HUGE part of A/C comfort.

    To All,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, been out of the country and unable to check the temps.
The ambient temperature initially was 92 degrees F. (South Louisiana)
After 5 minutes the temperature at the vent was 78 degrees F.
After driving for another 5 minutes it dropped to 80 degrees F in the cabin and 62 degrees F at the vent.
When sitting in city traffic or at a light the vent temp will increase but the cabin temp will stay lower than the outside ambient.

Your thoughts? The vehicle is cooling but this new compressor is not working as well as the factory original that I replaced.

Pressures need rechecked from your post above. A vehicle A/C at 80f outside temp should have conditioned air in the 50's easily.

The 80 degree F ambient temperature was the internal cabin temp, not the outside temp which was 95 degrees F. At an ambient temperature of 95 degrees F, outside and with the A/C fan on high what do you recommend that the pressures should be after equalization? Keep coil temp above 32 degrees F to avoid coil freezing up of course. Any coil temp recommendation? Thanks.
