A/C Delete

    Well, like the title says, I am thinking of removing my A/C (Air Conditioning) from Roxanne.

    Why you ask?
    1. Cuz Trail Rig :cool: (well, in a few years)
    2. I live in Alaska
    3. I would rather roll down the windows
    4. The PO hit something with the front end of Roxanne and 3 of 4 mounts to the condenser are screwed up/broken/gone/pulverized on the highway/giving nightmares to a certain Honda Civic, etc...
    5. Less resistance on engine=very slightly better MPG
    6. Less weight (more taco lean :eek: )

    With all of that out of the way, I am confident I can get the A/C stuff from under the hood out no problem. My only predicament is what is on the cab side of the firewall? I do still need my heater and blower. Please forgive my lack of knowledge and kindly educate me. :cool:

    It's only less resistance when the AC is off. You'll still need a pulley in place of the compressor.... if it is a serpentine belt.

    02 trd stepside v6
    If its a v6 then it won't matter. They use single belts not a serpentine belt so you won't need a dumby pulley

    On the 2.7L 3RZ-FE There is a separate belt just for the A/C.


    V6 or I4 for our gen! ;)

    Convert the old a/c compressor to compress just air instead of refrigerants. Some people swap in a different compressor instead but i have seen a stock 91 Toyota pickup compressor fill up a tank to air up 38s.

    Wow! That sounds sweet, I know nothing about these compressors though. My only thought would be a lack of lubrication :notsure:

    I guess my current question is how to remove the evaporator without killing heat. Reference pic.

    There is no reason to remove the evaporator. I didn't.

    I removed those refrigerant lines, and plugged them with corks :eek:

    In response to your PM'd question about using the compressor for on-board air, I kept them lubed with an inline oiler like those used for air tools. Its not perfect, though. Every couple of years, the compressor would burn up anyway, and I'd get another one from the wreckers.

    My setup followed the same basic design that you posted in post #11.

    Yep. I am going to leave the heater, just not sure what I can disconnect and keep my heat. Doesn't defrost use the AC Evap to "pull" the humidity out?

    That is the only downfall that I can think of to pulling it out. Other than the obvious of not having A/C..

    leave it...esp being where its cold a lot the dehumidifying capabilities alone are worth keeping the ac. i live in south georgia i hardly ever use heat or defrost. but the ac is a must here lol
