agreed. i think the expansion valve noise has nothing to do with the evaporator. but i guess Toyota knows better.

Toyotas are easy peasy. On some Fords, you have to take both front doors off in order to reach the bolts to take the dash out. Imagine the extra labor for that!

Friend of mine was a mechanic for many years and said "the problem is people who design them (cars in general of all brands) don't work on them. If it saves half a second on the assembly line or half a penny per vehicle it's great, they don't think that they made hours more of unnecessary work for the person who has to repair it. Especially stupid when it's a routine wear item like a headlight"

aircraft designers actually mock up a human hand in their CAD programs to make sure parts are accessible for service. It’s pretty cool, and it would be great if car makers could do this

    Yikes

Like others have mentioned in here before I would also be wondering if the whole thing was reassembled correctly after the repair too. Would suck to pay for all that and end up with a rattle lol

Going through the same problem with my 2019 Tacoma with 53,000 miles. Toyota wants way too much to repair it. Found a local business that will change out the evaporator for $1000.
