Going to tackle this tomorrow. Autozone rents the vacuum pump as well as manifold gauges. The replacement compressor says it has oil but not how much. Should I just rotate the pump to dump out the oil and then put in the correct amount (5.6oz PAG 46?). The guy that went to replace it but ordered the wrong part evacuated the system but I am not sure if it was flushed so I am not sure if there could be oil in the system still either. What would the best way to determine this to get the right amount of oil in the system?

Well I started tonight got the compressor out. Turns out the mechanic cut the cables connecting the plug to the compressor to the plug to the wiring harness and the plug is missing for the wiring harness side. It looks like the plug coming from the compressor and pickup sensor has a black, green, and light orange wire that goes to a plug on the harness that is purple, white, and red/white. Can anyone give me any info on this? I am trying to get this together by Wednesday evening as I am driving back to CA through the desert. 103 on the way out with no AC was a little toasty! I haven't had any luck on finding the wiring diagram.

There is some good info in this post /
I am also going through grief with my compressor . Its always on during defrost . There is mention of small in line filters in the thread below to protect the system from complete carnage should the compressor fail but no part numbers listed for the filters .
There is also a beefed up compressor clutch
