A/C not working. Button turns off, magnetic clutch does not engage. No squeal or blinking

    Good morning everyone,

    I have an AC issue that I have not found posted yet. My AC light does NOT blink and I have no squeal, which seems to be the majority of the posts. I also am not getting the compressor lock code (Although I only have a cheap scanner, and Torque Pro on my phone).

    I think what is happening is that my refrigerant is low. I understand if it needs a refill that means there's a leak that needs to be addressed, but I'd like to narrow it down.

    Symptoms:
    • No A/C
    • A/C Light turns off after about 5 seconds
    • Engine idle rises
    • Clutch does not engage
    • The first two times I did hear a whirring like a servo motor, but it was from the dash and not from the compressor

    Troubleshooting:
    • Tested with known good relay
    • Fuse is good (Especially since AC light does illuminate)
    • Confirmed compressor plug is getting power (With multimeter) when AC button is pressed
    • Checked (And cleared) cabin air filter
    • Re-plugged all connections in glove compartment

    The reason I think it's the refrigerant is because this is similar to me 2nd Gen Tacoma. I went down a rabbit hole on the compressor until I came across a thread where I needed to jumped the compressor to get it to engage, then used the correct weight of refrigerant to fill it. It blew cold for about 5 years until someone hit me and totaled it.

    I'd like to test the same, and jumper the compressor to force it to engage. I figure this will either tell me that the compressor IS indeed locked, or that it's still free spinning and it's not running (Likely) because of the pressure switch, due to lack of refrigerant. I do not have manifold gauges but my understanding is that you can't test pressure without the compressor running, so if I can get it to run with this jumper, I will buy gauges

    I am also open to any other suggestions or troubleshooting methods, thanks everyone!

    Check for any obvious signs of damage to the condenser and lines. I had similar symptoms early this year, turned out the back part of the mounting plate of my bumper was close enough to the hard line on the passenger side of the condenser to make contact and eventually rub a hole
