    I have a 1997 Tacoma sr5 with 375,900 miles. It’s the 3.4 automatic transmission 4x4

The problem is the a/c does not blow cold air. It has always blown ice cold then one day it just stopped.
Here is what I have done so far.

    A. Tested the compressor and yes it work engages and disengages when the button is pushed
    B. Checked all the fuses and the relays all working.
    C. Checked the valve that controls hot in cold water flow under the hood and closes and opens properly.
    D. Took it to a mechanic who replaced everything but the condenser in front of the radiator and the compressor pump because it works just fine. The window in the condenser shows the Freon going by once I turn on the a/c switch. And I clean out the radiator with cleaner so nothing is plugged.
    E. Put on a new belts because I had to change the timing belt anyway.
    F. Since he had the dash apart checked for shorts

This truck has always blown ice cold air for me and now that its 90 plus outside i need it to work like that again. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Welcome to TW… first thing we need to know is ,what are the low and high side pressure readings …. if the compressor is engaging

Your saying it blows air but it's not cold or it doesn't blow any air?

    I wondered the same thing.
But I figured the guy in step D surly wouldn’t replace all that stuff if it was a blower issue?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
My guess the blend door is stuck on outside air sucking in the hot air across the heater core.

I checked the blower and it blows hot air just fine. When I move it to the cool position the air is not as hot.

I am pretty sure the 1st Gen trucks use a heater control valve.
If it gets stuck open, it can cause the air to not blow cold.

@Dm93 is the AC man. He can help you more.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert on the subject but I know enough to get it done.

The low side pressure is really high, high side is near normal maybe a bit high for 80 degree ambient.

Typically you should see the low side in the 30-50 psi range depending on the system and how hot it is.

High side can vary greatly depending on ambient temp but usually I see it in the 180-300 psi range , the hotter it is outside the higher it will be.

Has the expansion valve been replaced?
Was the proper amount of refrigerant put in?

Typically with an overcharge you would see very high high side pressure and slightly high low side pressure and with an undercharge you would see both pressures low.

    @Dm93
I took it to a different shop and had them evac vacuum test and recharge the system. The new low reading are 33-48 and the new high 183 -200 the tech thinks the Freon was bad inside the system but could not give me a defining time answer. Also he put in a charge shot from a blue white can to make sure it was active when under pressure. The expansion valve has not been replaced yet unless you feel it is necessary the truck is blowing cold air.
Any other ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks curlyc1
