Hey everyone, very new to the forum. I have a 2004 v6 tacoma prerunner and I’ve been having some issues with A/C for about a month. The air never gets cold it sometimes gets cool but most of the time it’s just warm air. I took it to an AC mechanic and they found no leaks and recharged my system but it still wasn’t cold. My compressor turns on and stays on when the A/C and recirc is on but still nothing. And I don’t know if it matters but my low pressure tube is ice cold in the engine bay so I don’t know what could be wrong.

Open the hood and on the center of the firewall above the engine. You'll see some heater hoses that run thru a black plastic valve. Have someone turn the temp knob inside from hot to cold. Watch cable hooked to valve for movement. It should move the lever close to 90 degrees'.

I'm wondering if your accumulator is clogged.

Thank you all for your input once I get home I’m going to check if the heater hose valve is shutting. I don’t think it’s the blend door actuator because I don’t hear it getting stuck or clicking. If the accumulator is clogged would I have to take it somewhere?

Having the exact same issues with my 2003.. not wanting to get robbed at the mechanic..so if I can narrow it down that would be great.
I've recharged the system before and it barely made any difference at all. For about the first hour of use, it's cool (not cold) but then just blows air temp shortly after. It's hot here in AZ.. hahaa

Low pressure blockage. Any greasy marks on any of the tube routing?

What kind of pressure readings do you have?

At least it's starting to cool off there this time of year.

Checked the heater hose valve and it seems to be moving normal and closing all the way and I didn’t see any greasy marks on the tubes. Also I forgot to mention that at night when the sun isn’t out my a/c gets cold. Whenever the sun is out or my truck is hot it won’t get cold so if I’m parked in a garage for a while it’ll get cold or at night it’s cold.

Will it get cold going down the freeway. The mechanic that recharged it, did he just add freon or pull a vacuum and then recharge? Has your a/c system ever been completely out of freon?

He pulled a vacuum then recharged and if I drive faster or slower it doesn’t affect how cold the a/c is

Sometimes the ac compressor could be bad even if it’s engaging.

My Merc E320 had the same issue. No leaks, functioning compressor, warm air.

Turns out the entire compressor was bad even though it was properly engaging.

Without seeing what the pressures are on a set of gauges this could be impossible to diagnose online. What did the mechanic have say about it not working?
