I’m looking for answers for my sons truck, this is a used 2017 Tacoma A/C problems it will turn on and blow cold for a few seconds then it turns off.
This is a Tacoma,I was confused and thought it was a tundra.
Please he needs help with this,it was bought in Alaska then drove home after he got out of the Army only then realized A/C is not working,it has been to a dealership and they have no answers, seemed untrained in this so we are reaching out for real world help.

Might be low but strange that it’s happening on such a new truck

Take it to another dealership as these ACs aren't that complicated. Probably just a sensor or a switch. Is it still under warranty?

That's right, my '96 has 414,000 miles and 24 years old and AC will still freeze you out of the truck and has never had a problem.
    Bet it's just something simple.

The evaporator core in my got a leak and had to be replace, but the A/C never actually quit working; It would blow cold on the driver's side and warm on the passenger side when not charged, but now that it's been fixed it works great!

    I mean this respectfully
Normally folks are looking for advice to avoid paying for service, but try a differentd dealeror independent shop. If your local dealer can't figure it out, it's unlikely internet guesses are going to solve the mystery. It sounds like an issue at your dealer.

    Pro has the automatic a/c?
You can do a pretty good diagnostic via the control panel.

It needs a new AC compressor. The ground for the clutch is unprotected and gets corroded real fast. This causes a open that doesnt show any faults.

Tell them to look at this ground, its on the side of the compressor. If its gross like mine, then it needs to be replaced. The corrosion goes all the way into the wire cover and makes it get a poor ground. If you spray it with water and let it sit for a bit it will work again.

When they replace your compressor, smother this area with something to protect it from corrosion. I put a bunch of dielectric grease on mine after they replaced it.

My 2017 started doing that the other day. It only does it if the selector dial is turn to vent (all the way left) , AC light on 5 seconds and shuts off.
If I turn selector dial to the right it works fine. Weird. I imagine mine is a problem in the selector panel itself.
Basically I need to select feet or defrost vents for ac to work. I can get a combination of feet and face. That works fine, so I haven’t looked into this issue.

Did you check to see if the air handler doors under the dash are working ok? I sounds like the AC starts - then possible the heat door for the duct works may be opening up - heating the AC cold air.

Need more info here .... Is the compressor running / clutch engaging at all after it turns warm?? (On/off intermittent ?) AC Lines getting / staying cold?. AC may shut off if it thinks there is a need for more engine power for acceleration ... Perhaps (The Computer is telling the AC to shut off incorrectly? .... What did the Dealer Say ???

Just some thoughts that may help ...
