Have a 2015 TRD OR, 6 Cyl. AC system was recharged less than a year ago, and now barely blows cool. I know there is a leak, but it is also blowing warm on the right/passenger side, while drivers side blows cooler (but not cold).

    Thoughts, suggestions?

    Thanks,

When Tacomas are low on charge the evap core only cools one part. This is normal and eventually it won't cool at all.

Take it to a dedicated AC shop, they should locate the leak using the dye

get the leak fixed. It doesn't take long for all of the 134 to go away even with a tiny leak. It's an extremely lightweight and highly pressurized gas. Recharging does no good if there is a leak.

Curious as to why a vehicle that new needed a recharge 1 yr. ago. Was the refrigerant evacuated in order to perform a service?

Same thing happen to my 2015, ended up being a leak in the condenser. I found it after it was recharged with some added dye and a UV light. Very slow leak.

Was not cooling, slightly cool but not cold. I suspected a leak, which was confirmed and supposedly fixed, then recharged.

Mine was doing the same thing, I had it checked, vacuumed and recharged. Mechanic told me one side was clogged. I'm inclined to believe he didn't do a thorough job and I have a leak.

I'm inclined to agree. Find a new mechanic.

    Check your Schrader valves.

In essence. Find leak, repair, recharge.

This is exactly what happened to mine...

I have a 2010 RC 2.7L, and the A/C suddenly started blowing warm on the passenger side, but it was ICE COLD on the driver's side.. Two recharges and more than a year later, my local Toyota stealership of all places used UV dye to track the leak to the evaporator core. This first showed up in June 2017, and I had the problem fixed for good in September 2018. My truck is 2010 but was manufactured in August 2009. This would make it almost eight years old at the time the problem started, and it had around 75K miles.

I'm amazed that your truck is having problems at only four years old! After my dad's mechanic failed to find the leak twice in a row, I got desperate and took it to the dealer. DO NOT take it to the dealer. While my A/C is working great and has held a charge for almost a year now, it still cost almost $1,600 to fix. My new mechanic charged $1,100 to replace a leaky evaporator core in an FJ Cruiser, so I'm guessing it would be about the same for a Tacoma.

Also, I asked the service manager to text me pictures of my truck taken apart for the evap core replacement; The whole dash had to come out and that's why it was so much more expensive than, say, a compressor replacement...

My grandpa's friend let me drive his '03 RC 5-lug auto back in about 2006 or 2007 (with an expired learner's permit and, thus, no license ). It was warm when I drove that truck, and I remember that the A/C definitely needed a charge. Keep in mind that this was only a 4 year old truck at the time! Supervisor at previous job has a 2010 DCSB TRD OR that he bought new and has less than 60K miles. A/C has never been serviced and it works fine.

My mechanic vacuum-tested the A/C in my truck back in June or July of 2017 and couldn't find a leak. He recharged it and it held that charge for less than a year. As I said above, the stealership successfully repaired my A/C but charged out the ass for it.

On another note, while price-shopping, another Toyota dealership called me back trying to get me to trade in my truck for a new vehicle after I emailed them specifically requesting a price quote on the evap core replacement. Shows you how high the demand is for Tacomas these days, even 8-year old 2WD base models with leaky A/C evaporators! Needless to say, that particular dealership (Sloane Toyota in Glenside, Pennsylvania) did not get my business.

I just replaced the evap core two weeks ago.
Went over everything in the engine bay with a UV light tying to find the leak and came up nothing.
That meant it was time for some major surgery on the interior.

Took me two long days and I had to pull the supercharger off to disconnect the lines going to the heater core.

A couple months ago, my low pressure AC tube made contact with my hot motor and punctured a hole leaking out all my coolant. I had the entire line replaced and had more coolant inserted. A place near me wanted $630 for the whole service, but I got lucky and got it done elsewhere for only $100 including an OE spec tube
