With lunch finished, we put out our fire, amd proceeded to ford the creek, and head up the pass, back to Fernie.

We made it to Fernie, grabbed some pizza and beer, and stopped by a buddy’s shop to check out this customer out power wagon.

With more snow overnight, and the Lethbridge boys in the 1st gen headed for home, Ryan and I went for a backroads FSR tour, covering a couple hundred km’s. When we hit the pavement, I aired up, and started my 5 hour drive home. I cannot wait to get back to this area.

My buddy and I decided a saturday exploration trip was in order, while the weather seemed to be cooperating. So we jumped in the pos, and headed out to the mountains, west of Rocky Mountain house.

We found a few trails that bear some more exploration, once spring gets here.

Late October, it was time for a ruby falls trip again. It snowed and it snowed, and it snowed that day!! We got over a foot that day. I’d swapped my 35” MT’s for 33x10.5’s that day, as I didn’t want to drive uncut, un-siped MT’s in fresh, wet snow. I had them down to 8psi this trip.

We made short work of the cut across trail. There was some ice starting to form on the bigger puddles, but it didn’t cause us too much trouble here. I definitely felt the lack of tire being back on the all terrains, and tho I drop pressure to 15 here, I had minimal traction. I mentioned 8psi, once we hit ruby creek, I did drop to that for the remainder of the trail. What a world of difference.

Definitely one of my favourite ruby falls trips to date. Snow falling heavily, creek not frozen over, or even heavily iced along the banks, deep fresh snow on the trail, and, in spite of the jeeps, a good bunch of friends out.

Ruby falls. The mountain you can faintly see behind is the boundary to Jasper national park, the park north of Banff. There’s a pool up top the falls that one can swim in during the summer. But it’s COLD.

We took the back trail along flapjack lakes. And along here, we started to run into the thick ice on puddles that wanted to break on us. I hate ice. :annoyed:

We went as far as was prudent. We wanted to hit the road before it got fully dark, and we didn’t know how the road would be going home, thru the mountains.

One last shot of the pos, as I crossed the river back to the staging area.

It was a good thing we left when we did. The two tow rigs spun out up the black stone river hill. The snow was wet, and was instant ice with any weight on it. We had Chris’s white jeep, with an 8k winch hooked to one tow rig at a time, had him tethered to me, with the Tacoma over the bank, and we used all 4 of my tred boards to make headway. It took us two hours to cover approximately 750m. The tredpro’s made all the difference. When we weren’t throwing them under the tires, the trucks weren’t moving. Chris’s winch was helping to keep the trucks from sliding backwards, while the trucks, with trailers still attached, made headway with the boards being under the tires. Pretty neat to see them work under such heavy trucks, with almost no damage.
