Seems like I can do what I like with. Lining up quotes this week to have it cut down.

You all need permission to cut trees on your own property?

Here's an example from Southern California, which was likely eventually resolved in a more reasonable manner, but only because its absolute absurdity eventually attracted widespread media coverage and public outcry. Had the story not broken, I'm sure the municipal bureaucracy would have robotically fucked these people to death.

Based on the valuations quoted in this story, I have at least $1M of native oak trees growing on a slowly collapsing hillside above my house. I would like to prune them from time to time, to keep them healthy, and to reduce the peril to my home. But it would be illegal for me to do that. So what I do instead is nothing at all. I don't even go up the hill any more. Trees and boughs lay where the fall. Well, except for the one that fell through my roof. Luckily it also took out my power line, so the city came out and cut it up so they could reconnect my electric service. Otherwise there'd probably still be an oak branch sticking out of my roof, because no way am I touching that.

Man, for the Golden State? The lands and water are so ridiculously precious there, hard to believe a tree can grow to its fullest potential!

Agreed, but be careful, certain power-hungry types around here will ban you for telling it like it is…
