My '15 OR is Pyrite Mica and I'd like to Plasti-Dip the grille, badges and rear chrome bumper in black.

    1) do people remove the grille and/or rear bumper, or just tape and newspaper the heck out of the surrounding areas?

    2) how many cans should I get if I'm going to do 5 or 6 coats on each part?

    3) does Plasti-Dip have more than one type of black, or just "black?"

Thanks a bunch, as always. Oh, and if anyone has pics of a Pyrite Mica with this stuff already done, I'd sure love to see!

I just did my all my badges. I believe there is only 1 black. I found the more coats on the badges the easier it is to peel it off. Around 4 or 5 coats. Fewer coats and it tears easier making for more work.

They only have one black. They do have a glossifier but I find it hard to use

You'll probably need 10-15 cans depending on how many coats you're comfortable with. There is only one black, but they do supply a glossifier like others have mentioned. It is difficult to use though. Good luck!

All u need is one can
And no need to remove anything I used painters tape to mask off areas. Masking taped worked well it didnt stick to the tape and didn't damage anything
And there is a few colors I've seen red a few Times

    Hopes this helps

I'm sure one can would last through badges, grille, and a bumper o_O

I place six to eight coats on each area. I burnt through six cans on a pair of running boards. It was on an F-150 though. I would probably go through four cans AT LEAST on the bumper considering it is in a blast zone. I'm also factoring in some mess ups when first applying it considering OP hasn't used PlastiDip to my knowledge.

I did 4-5 coats on all of my 4 wheels plus badges with less than 3 cans.

I'd expect that you wouldn't need much more than the same.

You don't have to mask that well either. The overspray wipes right off when dry, it's amazing! I was worried about that too but it was so much easier than I expected.

I used 3/4 of a can on badges and 1 1/4 on rear bumper, 5 coats on everything. If I did it again I would do a couple more. Still came out good though.

For doing badges, go watch the vids on youtube. Proper instructions make you think the peraon is crazy. You don't tape off anything, it just peels off the paint and stays on the letters.

As for your grill, I would remove it to spray. Less cleanup and setup. The taco grill is pretty quick to take out. By removing the grill you can also do a better job getting to weird angles.
The bumper I would do some taping for.

When I did my rims I think I did 5-6 coats trying to keep them light. This took about 3 cans I guess. I drove them in NY winters chasing fresh snow for 3 yrs. Had the tires replaced once and they still looked good when I sold the truck.

They carry more than one color. I use there rustoleom peel coat and it is a lot better than the plasti dip brand.
I did this with plasti dip. and this, but ended up peeling the red off and going with all black

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    Other options.

Swap for a color matched grill surround.

    Debadge the truck.

Swap for a black bumper from someone wanting a chrome one.

    Forget the dip.
