Thats the way most older bucks are nocturnal. Even deer in parks

I found a crazy 6 point shed, it was probably at least 2 maybe 3 years old as it had green algae growing on it but it was a good 170 class deer if its opposite side was similar. I dont know if anyone got him or not but I never did see him. The dropped shed was almost at the top of a hill about 3800Foot elevation.

He died from lack of oxygen! Like you said he may only moved at night.
Alot of people have made shed hunting a sport. I you do find a matching pair of sheds they can be mounted even if they have bleached out some. I have some special stain that I use.

hey what can you tell me about euro mounting a pike head? I got a couple nice ones I want to try, but I know they are more delicate than regular skulls. Ive done my own euros with good results but just wondered if the same process would work?

I did a test run on a pike head and boiled/simmered it for 30 min...it basically was a fail since it fell apart. Too much cartilage, Do you think beetles would work?

I looked into the beetles a little, I might try that route. The pike has a lot of cartilage so basically it melts into a bunch of bones.

You have to do a whole remount. You would need a new form and eyes. When I remount a deer I always use new up to date eyes. As for a deer you would need a new cape and start from scratch. I keep extra capes but I'm running low.

ah I figured it was something like that...I thought maybe you could soak the old cape and re-do it...but its ok, I'll keep it as it is.
