Did he tell you what the cause of the crash was? Yahoo news said that both engines had problems and he was trying to get back to the base.

I guess that's the good thing about the F-16. It has an Emergency Power Unit that powers the controlsfor about 10 minutes.

The man lost his two babies, his wife, and his mother-in-law... and the first thing he did was forgive the pilot.

God bless him and his family.

I don't think that is the case. I thought the home that was destroyed was in the glide slope of Miramar. As in the case with most Air Bases, the base was around long before the houses were built.

Probably because his friend works at the tower and is privy to information that the public is not supposed to know until after the investigation.

    Most definitely.

I know socalman didn't give any names (of his friend), but if that were leaked and the Marines caught wind of it, that/those specific Marine(s) could be facing some serious shit in regards to their time in service / career.

There's always a different story than what is reported.

The bottom line remains the same though, people died, and that poor pilot has to live with that--the whole thing is just very sad.

not to make light of the situation.. but i think its funny how the pilot is using someones cell phone in those pics to call someone lol... Like as if he had a flat tire on the side of the road or somthing..

but no, he just ejected from a F 18

He was probably calling his command post to tell him that his Aircraft had just crashed into a house. Remember (not meaning to sound cold)that there is probably classified material in that wreckage. And it has to be protected.

Not really different just a couple of things he tried going to the east but didnt have enough fuel to go that far so he cut through the middle from the west it was the best interest and they didnt know the second engine was gonna go out but a couple of things lead to the engines going out.

In his position, landing on the runway at Miramar would've been his best decision (versus heading back to the carrier, where he came from). He tried his damndest to get to the runway, and it eventually went wrong.

When you're put in charge of a piece of equipment that expensive (how many millions and millions of $$$?), you're taught to not ditch it as a first resort. Many of the people (especially a local helicoptor pilot, who lived in the area) commented on how he kept putting down and retracting the landing gear. From that, you can tell he was at least tryin' to do something.
