Hey everyone, I'm new to the site, just picked up my 96' Tacoma last weekend.
My air cleaner box has been replaced with a K&N setup, I think the tag that tells you how much freon is on that. I'm in the middle of recharging my system now but don't know how much it holds, anyone have their tag still? My truck is a V-6 4x4 5 speed trans if that helps.
    Thanks!

Okay, I found the tag, it's in front of the radiator, small tag. Mine takes 1.43lbs. I added an ounce or so of oil also. A/C working great now!

I didn't see anything in there for freon amount. Good call though!

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Preon is what it's called nowadays, cars no longer use freon fired A/C units, stuff's illegal now thanks to the good ol' EPA lol.

"Preon" Refrigerant would be the correct term as "freon" is just a trade name under DuPont....

Thanks for the info guys. I work in the automotive field and we usually call it refrigerant or freon or R-134A. Just like other stuff that has several different names. :D

So I recharged my a/c and it worked great for about 2 or 3 days, now it's back to blowing warm air again. Anybody know of the most common place these trucks have problems as far as a/c leaks? I haven't had a chance yet to look for a leak. When I recharged it with the a/c machine at my job, it passed the leak test, but that is only checking if it holds a vacuum. Guess I will have to hook up compressed nitrogen via a regulator and pressurize the system that way, then squirt soapy water over all the lines and fittings to find the leak. :fingerscrossed: I hate not having a/c, my truck is black and we have 100 degree weather coming in a couple days!:annoyed:

Maybe the only real way to find the leak in this case I hate freon leaks have you checked both evap and condenser coil locations?

Please do not use the stuff with stop leak. It screws up the professionals air conditioning tools. If they find you used it, you could be buying them New tools.

Getting up inside the dash can be a challenge but if you can access it you should be able to see some evidence of oil at the location of the leak.....

Regardless, if you have a leak in the evaporator, it's much easier to just pull the whole dash. It gets easier after the 3rd 1. Lol.

Yep, I never use stop leak, even on coolant leaks. No bandaid fixes for me. I do use the pag oil with dye in it though. Makes it easy to find leaks.
