A funny thing happened on my way to fix an AC Leak. Using a few different attempts at refilling with those Walmart store brand R134a refrigerant cans kept the system working for a few days but it always all leaked back out!

So I began realizing I had a significant leak. So I purchased this product from O'reilly
    Interdynamics A/C System Dye;

it was like around $15, least expensive dye system I could find - along with a UV Light. Well a month after using this product the system is still cold. I have a theory that the dye that was in this product might have plugged the hole somehow. Either way I am not complaining and its worth a shot since you'll have to find out where it leaks anyway.

    I have a 1st generation, 2001 Tacoma

    Thanks!

    Jon

Can you see any dye that leaked out?

I wonder if maybe you had some dirt or something in the fill valve, and futzing with it enough times broke it loose enough to allow a proper seal.

Glad you got a nice and cold a/c system in January, lol

Will this product work for flat tires?

It will find the leak, sure, but so will soapy water.

No telling what this stuff does to rubber. I would not put this stuff in your tires.

I'm sorry. I was being funny and thought it was a given that this wouldn't be for tire/air leaks. It is not for air leaks. It is for refrigerant leaks in you refrigerant system. As far as I know

I’ve never seen UV dye fix a leak....I’m also guessing it was leaking from the fill valve and you lubricated it and it resealed itself.

I figured to were, but not everyone knows the depths of sarcasm this forum typically sees, so just wanted to reiterate.

Yes and I couldn't find the leak with the UV light after. This product also filled up faster than those cheaper cans. Its a small can with five dye shots but the can emptied in the system almost immediately.

Its a warm day here in SOCAL in January so I'm happy with that also the fact that defrosting uses AC to dry out the moisture on your windows, a safety feature

If you have a leak in you ac system it is always prudent to get it repaired. Air and moisture in your system is the last thing you want. Those quick fix solutions from your auto parts store will actually cost you more in the long run.

I thought the first step was to find the leak? I didn't want to spend a mechanic $95 an hour to find a phantom leak.

The context of my post clearly indicates that I have ALREADY proceeded with this solution by going to O'Reilly!
