It's just a vehicle. Sell it and get out of the hole.

First, welcome to TW! Second, you came to the wrong forum to ask if you should sell a Tacoma... Unless you want to sell it to one of us. Most, if not all, of us are going to tell you to keep it (of course that's the obvious answer). And I'm no exception. My two cents is, If you and your husband are making ends meet and selling the Tacoma would just make things a little bit easier then I would keep it. It's your pride and joy and it sounds like your laid up now with a bum shoulder, but by summer you should be good to go. If on the other hand you are slowly losing ground and starting to go backward financially then you might need to pony up and sell the truck, with the understanding that you buy another Tacoma as soon as your able to. That means your next in line for a new or new to you truck. I used my truck for work for the almost twenty years. Due to the rough life the truck had every six or so years we needed to replace it. My wife and I had the thought that the vehicle that is making the money has priority, but we always made sure she had a reliable vehicle that she actually wanted and liked to drive. Anyways that's just my opinion.

Wow, PackCon, you are perceptive. [And in all seriousness, I wasn't even trying to let that sense come through! I have been told I'm a terrible at hiding things.] There are other sides of the coin, too, and it's a little complicated and I won't get into here.

However, the truck is, as it must be, on the table as an option to take care of the debt on the minivan. But when it comes down to it, the truck brings me joy. Most material possessions don't but this one - yeah. I think we can handle the two-car payment for a bit. I'll find another way.

Thanks for the props - I like to take care of my debt quickly. One of us has to. LOLOLOL.

Your comments, as are everyone's on here, are very helpful. THANKS!

Yeah - I hear ya! It's my pleasure vehicle. I don't have room or time for much pleasure driving these days, but when I do, it's me and my taco. It's the only frivolous big item I really have. [I won't put in the number of shoes I own...but I keep things for a long time until they fall apart. The number here is UNDER 50 folks - lololol]

    TRUEST WORDS.

I had to do this once already with my '78 VW Champagne edition that had less than 100K on it. I'm hesitant to do it again. I found an OK buyer for it. Still see it on occasion driven by someone else in the Phoenix area.

If I do sell my taco, y'all will see it first on here.

I'd keep it, definitely. It's been reliable plus you'll be able to drive it again. I don't know anyone who doesn't miss their 1st gen they parted with.

I'm with you here re: debt and we have more debt than what we owe on this minivan. Yes, the truck - it's in great shape. I envisioned for years, since I've owned it, that I will never sell it. I don't like being in this position.

That's really cool. I love it when people stay connected through a mutual admiration of something. You never know what brings peeps together! Making good moves for your family are important. Thank you for your well wishes :)

Ah yes. I think I just drew a line in my relationship: I'm done selling my stuff to get us out of his holes. This is the last Taco stand.

Thank you for this! And I understand your feelings of regret. Those are all awesome vehicles. I have much empathy for you!

I had to sell my '78 VW champagne edition Type II with less than 100K, no accidents except for a dent on the left rear corner on it in 2012 that I had since '95. That SUCKED. I also had a broken foot and it was either that or the Taco (both were manual) so that I could buy an automatic transmission vehicle for commuting purposes. I sold the VW for $5k. I was desperate. They got it for pennies. I agree, I need to take my time selling if I were to ever sell this truck. Someone wanted to buy it today, even though it's not listed for sale. I get people coming up to me at least 2 times per year asking when I'm going to sell it. It's in great shape, so why wouldn't I want to keep it?
