Mine looked like that three years ago when I got a new frame. We couldn't even get the ball hitch out of the receiver. It had rusted into one solid mass. I ended up scrapping the whole thing and buying a whole new receiver hitch. Yours looks like you managed to salvage and get a few more years of service.

i thought it was a goner when I got it off the truck. The replacement from Toyota is 1200…
They say it’s a class 4 hitch per the window sticker.

i looked at that one and the one from hook road. I’ll keep towing with it until it dies or I find one on here for sale.
The metal piece on the end of the bed looks like crap; it really needs to be replaced, but I read on here where it’s an adventure to switch it out.

Thanks for sharing this information. I'm thinking seriously about using the POR 3-step process. Are you still happy with the results?

Ok, going all in on a certain product, Mastercoat. This is my last hope to keep this frame from falling apart.

I have watched countless hours of YT videos on which coating, sealer, barrier, paint prep, paint, etc. is the best. Last month I saw a comparison video that included Mastercoat for the first time. Never heard of it before. I watched a few videos on the product, there are several out there. I also watched the video the company created.
They advertise that their product is used on bridges in Pittsburg and the like. They have rigorous Chemical testing data that is impressive. I know, so does every company, but not like what they claim to have done to their product. Also, I spoke on the phone with the owner, and he is very personable and professional. They actually returned my call after leaving a message.
I purchased four products in total. The first is the Metal Prep and rust remover, 1/2 gallon. Its a serious acid witch leaves a Zinc coating on clean metal when dry. The second item Was their "Essential Kit", which included, Permanent Rust Sealer Surfacer, AG111 Gloss Black, 1 Qt. and MTC 101 Thinner. I won't be needing the thinner, as I am brushing the stuff on. The total with shipping was $166.85. Expensive for my budget, but so will be replacing my Tacoma should the worst happen, due to rust.
These images show what the results are from using OSPHO stuff. It didn't do crap...

The first thing I did was to wire brush ( again ) the rust areas and blow out the loose stuff. Then I came in with the Metal prep. This stuff is serious. It is a strong acid and you cannot get this stuff on your skin. I used a spray bottle and sprayed the hell out of the rust areas, I mean I drenched it. I don't have images of the prep going on because of the nature of the acid and keeping gloves on and handling my phone, not a good idea.

The next step was putting on the primer, which is silver. That helps in tracking where you have painted. I destroyed the lid getting it off, as it had glued itself down. I had to buy a quart can to store the un-used primer in. This was my set up for applying the primer. I used an extendable back-scratcher so I could reach up to the top of the frame, and an acid brush. stuck on a screw driver.

I put two coats on as instructed. This stuff dries to a hard as glass surface, I couldn't scratch it!

I let it dry overnight so the thick areas had a chance to thoroughly dry. Then covered it with the gloss black top coat. This is a two part product, two to one I think. I mixed way too much for the first coat but I got it right for the second coat.

I'll be checking this throughout the winter to see if any rust breaks through the paint. There are several videos out there to learn about the product. Here is a link to Mastercoat's YT video:

    interesting product
i also first heard of it last year and am looking at it for frame coating
did you apply it to underneath the frame where the lift points are? i would be curious how it handles being touched by a lift and or jackstands and supporting the weight, if it cracks, scuffs or anything like that?

You can see where I have applied the products. As far as the lift points on the frame, I really think it will hold up just fine. Both the silver primer and the black top coat harden to a glass-like finish. I will be applying these products to the rest o the frame.
As for an update on my frame, there is no appreciable signs of the rust returning or braking through the applied areas. It is still rock solid and glossy in finish.
