Are you disappointed in me for a trading in my Tacoma to get a 4Runner?

The limited is full time 4wd so it’s definitely the best one. It’s what everyone wishes they had!

It has the worst body lines, rockers, and bumpers though

Honestly, it's not a bad call. Just be ready to do more cutting and modifying in order to fit bumpers and armor, etc. The biggest thing is that the Limited is the only trim that comes in full-time four-wheel drive. So, given that you live in a Northern / snowy climate, it really is the best one as a daily driver.

Plus, keep in mind that the limited has the xreas suspension, which you will either have to choose between doing a spacer lift, or dumping the whole system to do an aftermarket suspension. Which, really isn't a bad deal.

What's wrong with KDSS? Are you jealous of my extra articulation combined with reduced body lean?.

I really wish full-time 4 wheel drive was just standard on every trim. Or, at least optional. . Honestly, sometimes I wonder why they don't do that.

    Those can be cut off.

    Yup!

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
All that matters is which one jumps the best. :boink:

There is a limited nightshade edition for sale in a town not too far away from me that from the pictures looks damn near flawless. It's the same year as my truck, a 2020, and actually has 67,000 mi which is like 8,000 more than my truck, but if the bottom is clean enough to eat off of the way the exterior and interior look to be, it seems like it might not be a bad idea. At first when I did some research it seemed like getting a limited was a bad idea if you go off-road but then I watched some YouTube videos of limiteds going off-road and with a simple lift they can still hold their own. As mentioned I would really really really like the full time four-wheel drive for the kind of conditions I regularly encounter in my parts. Plus all the creature comforts sure would be nice.

    Very true.

For a daily driver, kdss with the limited full-time four-wheel drive is the best drivetrain setup for sure. Not assuming you ditch those ugly huge Cadillac wheels. Lol

My problem with kdss is if you want to upgrade or build the truck out for serious off-road adventures. It tends to get in the way and changes what's available for the rear of the truck. Especially. Definitely plenty of workarounds and it is a great system on the road. Don't get me wrong. I've just been more and more leaning towards older more simplistic things.

That being said, I will probably say this till the day I die. The 5th gen 4Runner is one of, if not the best vehicle Toyota has ever built. I still think nearly daily what it would be like if I had been able to get the 4Runner I was going after instead of my double cab short bed Taco.

Unfortunately those options aren't available together.

Getting rid of the 20's is a given. Or, put snow tires on them, and get 17's for your "summer" tires.:D

I agree. I will always steer people away from it if they have plans for heavy modification, big lift, long travel, etc.

It does have some off-road benefit, though. It really hasn't been a limitation for me, so far. But, depending on which way I go with my build, I may end up eliminating it eventually.

Oh there will be some mods all right
I think I will be test driving some 4Runners today after work. I will be test driving that nightshade edition that I mentioned in here and I will also be test driving a SR5 premium (as long as both of them are still at the dealerships and didn't sell) if I do end up buying the nightshade edition It will be the highest mileage vehicle I have ever purchased (68,000 miles) which honestly makes me nervous but I know 4runners are supposed to be one of the most reliable vehicles out there so I think I'm willing to take the chance

I think we need a new poll on the highest mileage vehicle you've purchased

    0-50
    50-100
    100-150
    150-200
    200+
