That depends on your definition of "gourmet."

Last Friday I made sous vide Filet mignon with caramelized mushrooms and onions and roasted potatoes for my brothers and I. But, sometimes simplistic bullshit like mac and cheese with hot dogs really hits the spot. It's like comfort food for me.

Lately I've been eating a lot of simplistic bullshit.

 

Ketchup is an ingredient of many BBQ sauces. It's just sugar flavor, for infant palates. If you're going to be basic, at least graduate to mayo so it's not pretending to have flavor.

 

Sugar is also an ingredient in bbq sauce. So, stop pretending that bbq sauce is somehow sophisticated. It's mostly Sugar, vinegar and ketchup.

I do like BBQ sauce on things that it belongs on. But, mac and cheese is not one of those things.

 

What’s the phone number to send a wellness check on someone? Because, like, damn man…are you OK? Are your tastebuds functional?

 

I'm just saying there are more nuances to BBQ than ketchup. That's a given because it's ketchup plus other stuff. There's also a variety of BBQ. Ketchup is all the same and it ONLY offers sweet. BBQ can be smoky, sweet, spicy, tangy, have a burn or a lingering char flavor. Way more variety and "sophistication" than ketchup.

It's a comfort/nostalgia food for me to have BBQ sauce on mac n cheese. M&C with pork chops was pretty common growing up as a kid, as it was cheap and we were not wealthy. Downside is that Mom can't cook, so the chops were always dry, thus leading to my preference to this day for BBQ sauce on pork chops. Inevitably the sauce got on/into the mac and so my love for it was born.

All my comments about ketchup and chicken nuggets being for toddlers are an ongoing inside joke with the toddlers in chief @LarryDangerfield and @T-Rex266 , so don't take any of it serious. I'm just an asshole on the internet that likes to play devil's advocate.

 

Spicy ketchup is just BBQ sauce for toddlers.
