Wow, you’re really invested in this thing aren’t you?

Why in the fuck would an engineer design a pen holder that can only fit one type of pen? I've come to the conclusion that nothing fits in this fucking thing properly. I just went out there and made the key fit. Not properly but as good or better than any pen I’ve tried. I’m sure if you screw around long enough you can find something to fit something that will fit in there, but doesn’t mean that’s what it was designed for. Basically, as far as I’m concerned, pen or key it’s a fail whatever it was.

Like I said earlier, I had originally assumed it was for a pen when I first saw it in my Tundra but could never get one to fit. Then I read it was for a key. I thought that was stupid too because like the other guy posted why would I want to leave a key in there? Now I just think those Toyota guys are trolling all of us...

Pretty sure this was meant to be a pen holder! And the omnipotent Toyota engineers probably designed it so that it would fit your "typical, average, run of the mill, cheapo" ink pen. Will all pens fit in there; hell no! But will one or more writing instruments stored in that fucking junk drawer that everyone has in their house fit? I am betting yes.

 

It lines up pretty nicely with the notch for a usb cable to come out, so it must be a cable management retention clip

 

Your pen looks a little too "fat." The bracket relies on the springiness of the plastic to clip the pen in. Plastic springs will break if they get overstressed, especially as they age and become brittle. To be on the safe side, the pen diameter should be no more than .325".

 

Theory: Maybe Toyota had in mind a specific promotional pen that would be given out by the dealers? Or maybe it was a promotional tie-in for Bic pens, in the same way that dishwashers promote Cascade detergent?

Sounds like it is. My separate key is quite sticky and needs some persuasive sequences to get it to lock and unlock

 

No issues with my lock cyl after all. See post #22 for an explanation of how my fob and key situation works.
Try squrting some Marvel Mystery Oil in you cylinders. It works great.

 

I wonder if the free pen I got from KTJO will fit in there, I'm sure she did a lot of investigation and found/designed a pen that will only fit in that spot, and no where else, cause you know, she is all about the customer service and the "official Toyota Parts"...

 

If you break the pen holder is the truck totaled? Or do you just sell it to Carvana?
