The main issue is the bolt pattern for mounting the wheel to your column. Different steering wheel manufacturers use varying bolt patterns. You'll need to get a steering wheel adapter / hub that matches your new steering wheel's bolt pattern.

For legal reasons, nobody lists adapters for model years after 1995 (1996?). A hub / adapter for a 1989 - 1995 Toyota pickup will fit up on your 1996 Tacoma.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear in my last post ....

First - look for the steering wheel you want. Second - see if there's a hub / adapter that's designed to fit that steering wheel to a 1989 - 1995 Toyota pickup.

For example ... If you decide you want a MOMO steering wheel, check to see if MOMO offers a PreTaco adapter (they do).

Some friends of mine sell wheels. Obviously they won't have a hub that works, but the wheels are really nice suede. Not sure what look you're going for. I'm not sure what brand they are, but everyone in their family has them in their track cars and they feel great in your hands.
