A question or two before I do my first 3rd gen oil change.

    i can now positively report back. i had the unique experience to do both of my trucks. a 2006 and the 2023.

    the 2023 is a bigger pain. the MotivX socket thing isnt the "silver bullet" i thought it would be. it is shallow, only reaching the bottom level of the housing. those "fins" do not even come into play. the unit is machined tight!! really tight. i used a big socket to turn the thing, and it kept going skewed. just jamming a 3/8 drive into it was way better. YOU ALL WERE CORRECT!! the toyota plastic nipple to punch the filter is a recipe for disaster. it about garantees oil dripping down you arm. i hose is mandatory. (next time). and my funnel sucked. and a Castrol oil bottle doesnt thread onto the oil neck. i need to rethink filling oil. and that tiny aluminum tab? i still dont know it's role in all of this. i left it there and never touched it. not with the MotivX

    my 2006, it took me 5 minutes and took two papertowel sheets. the 2023 was about 9 sheets. hahah..

    Hose makes a big difference. I run a bit of brake cleaner thru it afterwards so it does not drip oil on the shelf.

    I used an additional funnel at the Auto Hobby Shop on Dover AFB. It provided less mess when I went to pour the oil.

    Great to hear they are still available. Been quite a few years but I stopped in the FE Warren shop to change a broken shock on a road trip.

    For me the motivX tools and the fumoto are the silver bullet, not sure what more you’re wishing for.

    I also did the metal housing conversion, when I ordered it the site said It wouldn’t fit but it does…..after watching this vid (about 9mins) I’m going to compare the oem and the metal one.

    I converted the wife's RAV4 from plastic to metal housing. Perforated support pipes were the same height in my case. I just double checked. I have both the Rav4 old plastic housing and the new aluminum one waiting for the Taco. In both filter is about 1/4" longer than the center pipe. Pipes are 2 3/8" long. IIRC, the engine has a short pipe/nipple that fits into the filter, taking up that 1/4" of the fiter element.
    Manuals call for thr same filter part#s in both Taco V6 and Rav4 I4.

    I did not replace the bypass spring. I doubt that Toyota would drastically change the bypass pressure between the engines.

    i dont think my MotivX is machined that perfectly. it doesnt cup over the housing cleanly. it was hard to press on, and once off and sitting on the garage floor, it was a bit to separate them.

    i never mentioned a Fumoto..not sure where you got that, but it wasnt from me.

    Agree with you about the Motivx filter wrench. That thing gets stuck on my filter housing every time. I have just gotten used to breaking it loose when reinstalling the canister. Takes a lot of wiggling.

    The tool fits the cap as it should. Snuggly you do not want extra play and an easy fit.

    Others are running the same metal housing without any issues but I’ll definitely post back.

    You have the new style MotivX tool. This is the old version:

    However, the flutes aren't as tight and it has been known to break off those fins. I assume that's why they changed the design a little bit. I'm going to pick up the new style and just keep this one as a back-up.

    I just mentioed that I added the valve when I did my oil change with the motivX tool…..two worthwhile products.

    The plastic housing was on so freaking tight, if I didn’t have it I would have had to break it to remove it.

    The whole vid is worth a watch, at about 9mins he explains how the bypass valves can differ from model to model.

    I had one of those that I used on my first oil change. It was a horrible fit. Those are the styles that people use and they end up breaking off the flutes from the filter housing.

    After I got the new style I threw that one in trash

    i might give one a try. you use a hose, or just drop from elevation?
