There is a used, cheap TracRac for sale near me, the "universal" kind, says the ad.

Will it fit (I have yet to see it) as is on my 2012, or do I need a special clamp add-on kit (to bite the bed rails) to the stock clamp set?

BTW, this is for very short distance canoe hauling, I do not need super-duty fit.

I believe you need that clam add-on. Did you end up going with it? I just bought a tracrac myself and planning to buy the add-on. Got a used one for 120 bucks, which is a great deal assuming I can get it to fit. Also just doing canoe stuff.

Hmm... maybe I will wait for the right used Tacoma-style rack to come up for sale, locally.
