I have a new 16 TRD Sport, which so far has been great.
I'm trading my wheels and tires for the premium wheels off a newer 4Runner. I need to know if the TPM sensors on those wheels will work properly with my new truck.
    Thanks in advance.

The TPMS will have to be reprogrammed to accept the new sensors.

If the trade is being done at a dealer, make sure they are including that as part of the deal.

Is that something I can do, or must it be performed at the dealer?
    Thanks.

Requires a special diagnostic tool to access that computer. Many tire shops have them, and should be cheaper than a dealership. However, since you have a new truck, I'd call and ask a service advisor if he'd throw that in (free) with your first free checkup/oil change/whatever.

Your owners manual will show other things that are programmable as well, like disabling door chimes, etc. Find something in there you want and get them to do that too.

I appreciate the quick responses. I just called a friend of mine who has a tire shop. He said he can reprogram them for me. So I guess the question would be since the other wheels from the 4Runner are obviously Toyota products, would I have any problem with them being programmed to my new truck?

I wouldn't think it would be a problem, but I've never done it.

My '13 is my first vehicle with that particular nanny on it.

Your tire shop friend should know the definitive answer, since he has the tool.

There's a weird procedure that worked for me AFTER I paid the dealer to do this for me. After you change the numbers for the new sensors in the ECU and push the reset button down by your left knee... you then have to take the car for a ride and drive over say 70ish mph for a few minutes.
