    Just picked up a used CX at great price ( thanks Andrew) and was wondering if someone could snap a few pics of the mounting system? I have bracket but can't figure out how they go, I am using c clamps for now but have a 500 mile trip that I would like to get it righ before then. Thanks for any help

    I remember hearing you lose the cargo tie downs does it use the actual tie down brackets & rails or just the rails ?

    Here's how mine is secured. It's an ARE MX Series. That bolt you see is screwed into a piece that slides on the rail system (basically a square nut). No c-clamps, just 4 of these.

    Thanks..that is a smooth way of mounting, the CX series does not have that little lip that you have on the topper.... Thanks much!!

    Damn, I was hoping it'd be that same since they're both ARE. You could try contacting your local cap store to see what kind of hardware you should be using and how much it would cost to have OEM stuff.

    I had an ARE CX and it mounted the same way as the way Pugga posted.

    I was still able to leave my cleats in place in the rail. I could still use them but they were a little difficult to move when the cap was on.

    HA!!! Local dealer said don't get hung up on having an ARE part..he gave me the part number for the API clamps and showed me where to order directly..that's customer service..

    Nice! A lot of those dealers are pretty decent, they gave me some spare parts for free. They make their money off the install and selling the cap I think so small parts aren't as important and it's good customer service!

    Are you sure your cap is meant to fit a second gen? It sounds like the mounting system you described would be for a first gen instead.

    yep..it's a 2nd gen..it came off a 2nd gen and I sent the serial number plate which sates 2010 Tacoma right on it, the local guy said some come with the above picture setup and some don't, he said they always use an API clamp system

    Those API clips look very similar to what LEER uses (and apparently what ARE uses on some models). Good luck, sounds like you've found your solution!

    Yes, but I'd recommend tapping into your brake line then using some sort of coupler so you can remove the cap in the future without having to cut the wire. I tapped directly into my brake wire for my 3rd brake light.
