Oh, no- I'm not saying that at all: depending on the impact, the thin stock Toyota bumper might provide better protection to the body of the truck by absorbing more energy, especially at the mid-speed range. At low speed, ya, I reckon my bumper is better- and at catastrophic speed, the mass can only help; there may well be a window where the stock bumper would pass through less damage, deforming before the thicker material used here. There were other values, outlined in the lead post, motivating the design- esthetic, conceptual, and communicative.

If I’m correct I believe sliders mount to the frame of the truck under the rocker panel

Tow bumper? There's a step bumper assembly and brackets. It's part number 00228-35955. The receiver is a separate dealer installed option. :notsure:

It’s not about “getting off” on research. It’s about doing research period. Your claims so far of everything are just assumptions.

So yes, at least having an idea of how much the now halved lacrosse balls can withstand could at least give you an estimate of how many you’d need for whatever clearly arbitrary number you’re looking for to reinforce this “bumper.”

Your only argument so far is basically “because I designed it this way.” I’m just asking you for ANY sort of actual proof to back up your claims so far. If you could at least say “each ball can withstand 200lbs of force so I went with X number so it can withstand X amount of force…”

You posted a hack job of a bumper and are surprised that people are challenging you on the claims you’re making. I don’t actually need data or research though to know I wouldn’t feel safe with that thing attached to my vehicle.

Hopefully with the clear lack of research/development you’ve done this thing holds up in the event that you do get in an accident.

Clearly I’m talking to a brick wall at this point, so feel free to throw some more condescending insults my way. Hope the bumper works when you need it to

Welp after digging around all over, apparently Toyota did stamp their 350 tongue weight and 3500lb rating on the bumpers of these things. Seems pretty stupid to me. But I'm not too proud to admit when I'm wrong. What surprises me most however is the lack of any other 1st genners to step in and back you up. Which makes me think, most people won't bumper tow with these trucks. :notsure::hattip:
I also couldn't find any photos of anyone bumper towing the 1st gen.
I did see this oddity though.
Also of some confusion was a post where the dealer told him the bumper was only rated for 2500lbs.
Still, If I see you on the highway, I'm keeping clear away from you. o_O

Yeah I did come across a few "I bumper towed once and my bumper came off" posts.

Pretty sure all 10 bolts holding my bumper to the frame had self welded to said frame via rust.

Total steampunk vibe. All that’s missing is a skull made out of rebar. Or maybe a mermaid.

Unfortunately, the only thing this bumper could not protect the OP from was hate from the masses! Not my cup of tea but if you dig it. That is all that matters. And for the record I used to bumper tow hay wagons with 80’s & 90’s pre Tacoma Toyota pickups. Loaded with hay. God knows how much weight though practically zero tongue weight.

The last laugh will be had by the OP when Elon calls and this cat designs the bumpers on the cyber truck.

OP's bumper has a better chance of going into production than the cybertruck.

I see lacrosse ball front and rear bump stops in the OP's future.

    Thats great!

I use lacrosse balls for my dog. A chuck-it tennis ball thrower fits them perfect. He chews a tennis ball in seconds. Lacrosse balls last for months.

Can't speak to safety or towing abilities, but I think the bumper looks neat. Only thing I would have thought to do with so many balls is turn the truck bed into a despicable ball pit.
