I’d say that it makes it a lot easier to reach items at the bottom of its deep trunk. Also, without the 2 way gate, it would be difficult to reach over and across the tailgate and the trunk for the spare tire which is positioned in a slot, forward of the trunk and under the bed.

With a cap, canopy or shell, the 2 way gate makes it easier to reach small items at the front of the bed, without the need to crawl up and into the bed.

Windoors in a canopy are great for that.0516A6DF-2C49-48D9-A244-A13631A725EC.jpg

All of that is placed where the ground clearance should be.

These days there's dudes getting facials
    Manicured, waxed and botoxed
With deep spray-on tans and creamy lotiony hands
    You can't grip a tackle-box
With all of these men lining up to get neutered
It's hip now to be feminized
    I don't highlight my hair
    I've still got a pair
Yeah honey, I'm still a guy
    All my eyebrows ain't plucked
There's a gun in my truck
Oh thank God, I'm still a guy

I wouldn't spend any time worrying about Ridgelines vs. Tacomas. Very different products aimed different target markets.

There are Honda owners who have owned their products since the first Civic hit the market in the 1970s. They won't own any other brand of vehicle.

They have Honda lawnmowers, generators, pressure washers, trimmers, snow blowers, tillers, and pumps. If it has Honda's name on it, they buy it whether they need it or not.

I think the extra space in the ridge line bed could be useful. That’s about the only thing I have to say here.

Ridgeline owner: I like fantasy. Fantasy puts me into a reality where the plumber arrives within 15 minutes, that's why I watch porn.

Tacoma owner: I am the plumber.

lol. I had a very similar conversation with my wife. She had already bought in that a truck is practical for DIY around the house but she was focused in on Consumer Reports and all their love for the Ridgeline. I finally had to tell her that if she wanted a Ridgeline she could trade in her Subaru Forrester and get one but I was getting something I could make my own and go off road and camping once in a while and still be practical for our little DIY projects. She finally let go on the Ridgeline when we took a Tacoma for the test drive but she wouldn't budge on getting the Pro because of the seats... :(

Ridgeline says: "I'm smarter and better than the rest of you. I'm new on the block and I've got all the answers to everything. I am the future."
