So I was involved in a collision back in October. I wasn't hurt, truck wasn't drivable but the damage seemed minimal.

Fast forward to Monday, my '17 TRD OR DCSB with tech and premium packages is totaled. The body shop says the frame is bent, and we all know how that goes.

Good news for your tacos though, I've got a few parts to sell on the cheap. Gonna make a thread in the sale subforum.

That sucks but you can replace the truck. At least you weren’t injured.

Anybody know the rules for a sale thread title? I'm getting an error "please enter a valid title" but I'm trying stuff like "FS: rack, sliders"

It's made of unstraightenable material; the strength of the frame is compromised if it were to be straightened. Take good care of your frames!

Are you maybe trying to post a thread using an IP address that you don't usually use? There's some security measures in place to help ward off some scams, and that MIGHT be triggering one of them. Make the thread somewhere else in the forum. Tag me, and I'll move it for you.

Just out of curiosity, did your insurance adjuster total the truck or did the body shop just say the frame is bent and assume it would be? I wouldn't take it as a given it's totaled until the adjuster says so, especially given values today. That said, I hope they do total it for you. I don't know that you would want that back fixed. Hope it all turns out well for you!

Bummer! So sorry about your loss but glad you are okay.

I have been wondering how this sort of situation plays out with the current astronomical pricing on new and used Tacomas. Does insurance reimbursement pay current market value allowing one to (almost) break even on a replacement?

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
If you have the factory 100/400W inverter, I would love to get it to replace my broken one!

I truncated a lot of the story in my first post; originally the shop had been saying I'd get it back this week. Monday morning the adjuster called and emailed and whatever to tell me they were going to total it. I called the shop who told me the frame is bent. They won't straighten a bent frame, it has to be a frame off replacement. They were already around 12k in repairs, so that was that.

They value my truck at ~34k, less some other damage ( :anonymous: ) they're going to pay me around 30k.

Will it turn out ok? This is the truck I'm intending to buy. https://shift.com/car/2012-gray-ram-3500/c1576364

Don't ever take any insurances first offer. Look closely to the vehicles that they are comparing your truck value to. Make sure that these vehicles are actually available today, and not something that was available a year ago when prices were lower.

When my '97 was deemed totalled a few years ago, they tried to settle me a check for $6k and I then I had would also have to spend $900 to buy back my truck.

I looked up thier reference vehicles and found that they were listed for sale A LONG time ago and not even close to being available. So, I looked online for similar trucks in my area with similar specs and miles and gave that back to them as a counter. They ended up writing me a nice $8k check and I also got to keep my truck to repair it and keep driving it.

Looks like you got hit on the wheel. I had a new Colorado a few years back. Same type of collision, with direct, t-bone-style impact to the driver front fender. Initially quoted $11k. A few weeks later they came back and said the hit sent shock waves through the truck and destroyed the frame. A full frame replacement actually didn’t quite total it, but the insurance company gave me the option of going it alone or totaling it out, with the recommendation to total it bc the bent frame would inevitably have caused more undiscovered damage.
