Who knows why these things happen. I had a Honda Civic that was a money pit but my Honda Fit has been great. Hopefully my Tacoma will give me 20 years.
I had one VW bug I got for my daughter because “it was cute” and I swear they could not give me another VW. Every thing is expensive on those things and it was pure junk.

It really was a bummer. That TDI was an amazing car when it was running right.

thanks I appreciate this a lot. It definitely adds up. Especially since Toyota is famous for reliability and I had a certain expectation and considered it a good investment. If I wanted car ownership to be a chore I’d buy an infinity (haha) how do you like your rav4 hybrid? That’s my top 2 of what I’d switch to

oh man that brings back good memories. I learned to drive stick on one of those bad boys.

thank you I’m pretty much just her chauffeur and I’m ok with that.

If not a Tacoma I would go back to a 4runner over anything else any day. Yeah, the gas mileage is about 2 less than the Taco, but they are a great vehicle if you don't have to have a bed.

I have an 08 and I love it. Great gas mileage. Park anywhere. Mine’s a “sport” cause I’m like a sporty dude…so it’s like the Ferrari of Fits :)

I mean, it’s got a spoiler and everything…for when I do 65 mph…keeps that baby pinned to the road.

Wow 08 and no issues? Nice nice. I saw a modded “off road” Fit once. Not sure how well it functioned but I appreciated the owners enthusiasm

I can agree with this. First model years of any models will have the most issues. First model years of anything in general you want to avoid. Usually avoid them until the next upgraded version comes out, like the 2018’s or now the 2020+ models.

I would sell the 2016 but that doesn’t mean all Tacoma’s are bad. Just avoid the first model years of anything.

yeah, I’m kicking myself trust me. Was just to used to Tacoma being practically synonymous with reliability and quality, that I weighed it above being the first of a new generation. Kicking myself!

    thanks for the advice

Like others have mentioned, there’s bad apples in every batch. Traded in my 2016 2dr. Rubicon Hard Rock with 65k miles last month for a 2019 dcor with 16.5k. Jeep had a leaking radiator for a year, several abs wheel sensor failures, and the worst one was when it was windy, I’d get a steering angle misalignment from fighting the wind. When that would happen, you lose cruise control. I live in one of the windiest places in the US, and everywhere you drive is at least 45 miles away. Hopefully this Tacoma will be more reliable than that. Only ever did light wheeling twice with it. Hopefully the warranty replacement will correct your issues

OP, I dunno about that. It seems like your monthly repair bill is still WAY under what you'll pay for a new vehicle... I'd be keeping it, but I may not be a good point of reference since I keep my vehicles between 10 (shortest) and 16 (longest) years.

AGAIN, I GOTTA THANK YOU GUYS!!!!

Truck was at the local Toyota dealership from Tuesday till this morning (had to order parts), BUT, they replaced all 4 CATS and associated parts @ NO CHARGE to me!!!! I saved over $4,300 by reading this thread as I would instead have gone to my local mechanic not knowing about the 8 year 80,000 mile federal warranty on CATS.

2016 SR5 with ~ 65,000 miles on it - new parts and labor have a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty, SO, if they go bad during that timeframe or until 80,000 miles I get it done again for free!!!

    YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!!!!!
