I’m new to these trucks. I hate overmodding and take a very conservative approach to modifying my vehicle especially when it comes to driveline, electrical, and suspension. I’m a firm believer that the manufacturer designed the vehicle with certain tolerances and I don’t like to mess with that.

That being said, I would like my truck to AT THE LEAST be level (without blocks). I see a lot of guys going the Billy 6112/5160 route with an AAL in the back. How much does this effect the OEM tolerances? Are you guys adding maintenance cost down the road with this setup?

I don’t care about ride quality. If I did, I wouldn’t have bought this truck. I just worry that I’m shortening maintenance intervals and putting unnecessary stress on driveline components that don’t need it.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

most people who level their trucks go back to a raked position. its a truck, its suppose to have rake. youre not really messing with anything until you closing in on 3 inches of lift. buy 5100 for the front and put them up a clip and call it a day to "level" your truck.

I'm going on 5yrs, and 26k mile with this setup and no problems at all. No extra maintenance cost.

Going up a bit only hurts mpg. Going wider or heavier is what will shorten component life.

Why lift the truck at all? There are more cons to pros.

If you are really worried about shortening maintenance intervals and putting unnecessary stress on driveline components then leave it stock. Everything has a compromise.

If you don't care at all about the ride quality, why not put in small blocks and call it a day? It's the cheapest option.

Also, if you look at the bottom of the cab, the truck is level.

I'm considering a TRD Lift...that's a subtle lift (In My Opinion) and is OEM.

I've already got Bushwacker Fender Flares on my Sport...just using my initial tires until at least 40K+ miles.

Then it will be time for slightly bigger wheel/tire set-up!

Good luck with whatever path you take.

I did the Bilstein route, but didn't do AAL to level it out. I have about 60K on my setup.

A .5 inch spacer lift in the front will give you an inch in the front and won't be enough to turn the coilover into the bump stop. That is the cheapest lift and won't effect reliability

The most subtle lift would be the Bilstein 5100s set @ 1" up front, and dont touch the rear at all. This will level the truck and won't change much at all. It will give you much better ride, as the 5100s are a bigger better shock than the OEM Bilstein shock.

Do yourself a favour and don't put a spacer lift up front.

Save your money and leave it alone. Stock will have better resale when you decide to bail out next year.

Just buy a Pro and leave it stock. You'll have no warranty issues and it will have great resale value.

Longevity seems to be lacking in the world of vehicle ownership on the internet.

When I have purchased a vehicle, it's been for the long haul...case in point my 2003 Honda Pilot: took her home July 2002.

It had over 200K miles on it before my accident Oct 3, 2018...which totally bummed me out because my family & I had lots of adventures in that SUV during my USAF assignments. After driving the island of Oahu for a year, we got stationed in Germany in 2006 for a 3 year assignment.

Then in 2006 got my assignment to where we decided to settle: Dover AFB, DE.

I was hot for an unaccompanied short tour (without my family) after making E7...so, I chose my 365TDY and spent a year at Kirkuk, Iraq.

Before High Year of Tenure changes took affect, I was offered 3 overseas assignments for one last rodeo in Europe.

2 bases I had already been assigned: Mildenhall & Ramstein...so I picked Aviano, Italy.

I could keep going on but my point is, owning a vehicle for the long haul takes a dedication to keep it running so the family always has a ride to adventures and of course, ride home.

I plan on keeping my 2021 Sport for the long haul...and I think you want to as well?

All the best! Enjoy your ride in the Tacoma!!!

    I considered the same thing.

I went with under 2" due to two reasons, one the factory offers that and maintains the original warranty, and two I didn't need to increase tire size.

Cheapest will be spacers up front. Ride may get worse but if you keep it to 1" lift or so it shouldn't be bad. Blocks in the rear if you want but it will make the ride in worse. I would instead recommend the 5100s. I know you said you are not worried about ride but the 5100s improve body control so much that the vehicle is much more enjoyable to drive.

Rake is a personal decision. That said, with as soft as the rear is on these trucks they squat with even the lightest load.

All that said, I did a 1.5" lift in front and 2" in back, and frankly is flipping annoying. At 5' 10" the seat height for entry and exit was perfect. Now it's annoying. It's just slightly too high to easily get in and out but too low to effectively use step bars or running boards.

Easy to type. But in execution, impossible.
