    Hi,

I have read before that many tacoma came low on A/T fluid even when new? Do you recommend to fill it up and change it ASAP?

    Thanks mates

After reading similar posts on TW, following the fluid check directions posted on TW, I checked the fluid on my 2015 Sport...the fluid level was fine, others have cited that their fluid was "low". You'll not likely find a consensus on this forum. Do a search, checking your fluid is not difficult and then YOU will know.

After reading about this issue on TW, I checked my 2015 Taco and it was fine. However my 2106 Altima came from the factory with the CVT fluid low.

2nd Gen issue as well, but as stated above, not all have the problem. Only one way to know for sure.

Unfortunately unless you live next door to a Toyota dealer or in the snow belt, you cannot just drive in and have the ATF checked. The transmission temperature must be between 115°F and 130°F to do a proper level check. Normally your transmission will be a little warmer than that. There is a procedure on TW under Tips, Mods & more on how to do a ATF level check.

You can do it yourself if you have a paper clip, follow the simple instructions for checking fluid level provided in a thread at this site and start out with a cold engine. Like you, I am also retired and live in a warm climate. It could not be any easier.

Every vehicle should have every fluid checked by the owner if they are picky. Dealer prep is done by minimum wage kids in most places, and may or may not be done in a quality manner.

But yes, 'some' transmissions tend to come low. And dealer prep won't find that, because there's no dipstick, and they aren't going to take the time to go thru the procedure.

Of course, if it's actually low. Why wouldn't you?

    No. Why would you?

Thanks for all your answers guys, I'm scared to do the A/T check, I have to read and read again many DIY posts, I don't know if I do it now or wait till 60 000 miles...

Do you feel it on the A/T transmission when its fluid is low? It is less soft when it shifts for instance?

Why are you scared? Pay a pro if you are incapable.

Why on earth would you wait? Wouldn't it be better to know its fine than to wonder for 60k? Or get it topped up if not fine?

Don't worry about feel. It may or may not have a drivability issue. Either way, its not a guarantee of the fluid level.
