Well idk..i took mine to the guy who sold it to me since he has a small shop,i left it there two weeks cuz he was gonna fix some other details we agreed upon the purchase, anyways when i came back he said he had replaced the fuel pump because it was overheating, however i didnt belive it specially because i noticed he had broke a very small tab by the shifter,a tab that work as a key to lock the shifter, keep in mind my truck was full of gas when this problem happened as i never let it go below half tank, but now that you guys mention this problem with the fuel pump triggering the A/T light i am thinking that maybe ,just maybe he was telling the truth...or the possibility that the problem was that just before the problem happened ,that day i had been messing with that shifter lock as i did not know what it was for and i may have left it a bit engaged causing my AT to overheat...you all are free to pick the possible solution out of the things done to my taco in order to solve the problem

Try what my brother in law did remove fuel hose under the hood where it connects to the engine it's visible and reachable from top in other words don't crawl under. And have someone crank it, if it's not pumping fuel through then maybe your fuel pump is acting up or fuel filter is clogged time for a new. But for what ever reason the a/t oil temp was related to my empty gas tank.. fuel related..

Lol..yea well the problem on mine is solved,i just never knew if he did really replace the fuel pump and solved the issue that way or if he just flicked the shifter lock tab or switch and solved the problem that way..

Although I have a 2nd gen Tundra, this just happened to me as well. Just got it back from the shop due to a faulty NSS(neutral saftey switch) on the transmission and noticed that it took about 4 seconds to shift from neutral to drive. Driving on flat surface the engine died and the a/t temp light turned on. Didnt even bother to check anything. Had a tow truck tow it right back to the shop.. to bad their closed for the weekend.. sigh

    Fuel Low, Out

2007 FJ Cruiser shutoff while driving as I was luckily pulling into a gas station. Dash lit up showing A/T Oil Temp & Check Engine. Gas gauge showed ~1/8 tank. Added 2 gal fuel, started back up like normal. Vehicle was starved of fuel.

This problem was a complete pain in the A$$. First off, the vehicle was not indicating correct fuel level (Showed 1/8 full, was bone dry). The vehicle then shut off in traffic because it was out of fuel, at which point I lost power steering, and wrangled help to push it to a pump ASAP, a dangerous situation to say the least. The A/T Oil Temp & Check Engine lights were false indicators which caused me to spend quite sometime waiting for the vehicle to cool, then learning there the transmission fluid is within a sealed system that cannot be checked using a dip stick. More research, and attempts to start. I eventually stumbled across the string of misleading fuel gauges and dash lights, added some fuel and was on my way. I will not be running anywhere close to that low again, but this problem should not exist.

This just happened to my truck this morning when I went to start it up. It has been sitting overnight and not taking any U-turns that I know of lol. But yeah, never done before either, so not really sure what’s going on.

Just happened to me today, I'll start troubleshooting tomorrow.

Started up fine, went to stop sign, turned right, truck turned off. Coasted down the street, pulled over, turned the key and started right back up. A/T Oil Temp light came on.

Fresh battery. Just bought this truck a few weeks ago. I'll check the fuel and radiator tomorrow.

So maybe the u-turns are throwing fuel away from the fuel pump pickup enough to starve the engine. Why the AT Oil temp light comes on first for that I don’t know, but the u-turn and low fuel sure seem to be common symptoms

Filled the truck up with a full tank, seemed to help. Would still shut off and turn the A/T oil temp light on.

Threw in a new alternator, because they're cheap and why not. $75

Put in a new fuel filter, $18, drove the truck around the block 3 times and worked nicely.

Drove the truck yesterday, died on me again.

I'm not surprised at all that a new alternator and fuel filter didn't fix this issue.

These multiple warning lights from unrelated systems (fuel, A/T) smell more like an ECU issue, maybe a bad ground.

What's your trans fluid look/smell like?

Trans fluid looks/smells old and black. Haven't flushed it yet.

This same exact scenario happened to me except my engine started smoking after I pulled over and when I got back to my house (without my truck it had to be towed) I noticed some fluid that almost looked like water all over the floor I thought it was just from the A/C running the check engine light was the first thing to come on with a popcorn sound coming from my engine then as soon as the oil light came on the truck turned off and I coasted right over to the side of the road
