Compared to my KO2s they're a bit louder, not like a M/T but definitely noticeable. I personally don't mind it but you can always turn the radio up a bit more

Really not much different than the K02- it’s there, but so is the Prinsu, Maxtrax, vhf radio, kids in the backseat..

Biggest difference is the E rated tires are hogs at 56lbs.. 265/70R17

Run a set then decide if I do it again or switch down to the ATIII.

For an aggressive sidewall with a milder tread patch, look at the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 XLT. The Toyo Open Country AT3 is also pretty good, along with the Firestone Destination XT.

The ST maxx is a poor excuse for a mud tire. They're exceptionally bad for winter road driving as well..

Right, they're a "looks like an MT but ain't.." I didn't think they were that great in the sand either since they dig way more than a normal AT. So what are these tires for again? :boink:

I hate to say that I'm extremely disappointed with the performance I'm seeing out of the ST Maxx tires I purchased for my fleet. At least on my F250 work rig, they have been just as bad, if not worse, than the Duratracs in terms of wearing quickly and never being balanced. They are also incredibly noisy. I would not consider them for my personal DD truck.

Man this is what makes tire buying such a tough decision!
Whats the real truth about the ST MAXX? Noisy, heavy, mpg suck, not that great for traction in certain conditions?
I was all set to order some 255s tomorrow, now I'm not sure what I'm going to get. I Don't want to throw away a grand for nothing.

My maxxs have 70k on them an still cooking. they are solid in everything but deep snow.

Tire opinions are like buttholes... the debate of "which is the best" will go on until cars float.

There is an ancient Irish hebrew saying about a beating a dead horse but i cant seem to think of it

They look good.. I didn't have any problems with them wearing too fast. And they weren't that loud as long as they we're rotated regularly. Like I said before I was not impressed with them in winter conditions, or sand. I replaced them with Toyo AT2s which have been phenomenal.

Ive had my St Maxxs on for around 7k. Ive had them on firm sand of the North OBX beaches as well as the talcum powder like sand of Ft.Fisher. When aired down the inspire nothing but confidence.

Been to Uwharrie NF in the nastiest red clay NC has to offer. Once again nothing but good things.

I rotate often and keep a close eye on pressure. As well as make sure my alighnment is in check.

I do not expierence abnormal wear or any of the other issues people bring up. Not to discredit those...just havnt seen them myself.

Keep in mind this is in the 255/80 17 size. Over all i am very happy with the coopers.

FWIW...i only went with the St Maxx b/c the STT Pros arent offered in a 255/80 size.

Just dont go mudding and expect results. Main reason I traded my wildpeaks for stt pros

Some of the guys in the STT Pro thread thought that the Pro ran smoother than the Maxx.

For full disclosure, my heavy work truck is the only one in my fleet so far having issues with them. The Tacoma and Frontier they are on have not had any issues that my crew has reported to me. Maybe what I'm experiencing is from the weight of the truck and bleed-over from the god awful front suspension design Ford cursed this truck with.
