Saw this while driving, Multipro & Multi Flex Tailgate. Is it useful, unnecessary, or stupid?

I think it’s unnecessary stupid. Every feature/function on this tailgate already exist on their truck.

Need a step? There’s one on each side of the bumper. Easier loading/unloading? Only if you’re 3ft tall and have t-Rex arms.

Always thought this was kind of a gimic, but I guess it could come in handy. But I can only imagine what one of those tailgates costs to replace.

More moving parts, more points of failure. I am fine with my simple hinged drop down tailgate. The soft open feature is nice though...

And those tailgates don't have handles. My uncle has one and you have to push a button to open it

I'm actually looking at buying another Sierra and will go out of my way not to have that goofy tailgate.

With due respect to their owners, GMCs are for people who want a truck but don’t need a truck.

That extra flap has another flap that serves as a middle step and a deployable handhold in the bed. Gimmicky as it is, my old man likes his and I’m happy he has some help getting into and out of the bed.

Who uses the bed of their truck? :notsure:

That's a fancy truck to be using for truck stuff.

The traditional tailgate has been fine for the past IDK how many decades? Why change it?

I don’t know where within this forum or subforum would be best for this. I thought here would be the best place b/c it’s truck related.

It can be used as a step also. I read somewhere that a lot of people would open it as a step right onto their trailer hitch causing some expensive damage.

Oh, and some of the Ram trucks have a tailgate that can open like normal or open like barn doors, like the old Suburbans.

I would love if my tacoma had something like that. I keep a metal step stool in the bed right now just so I can get in and out of the back.

If you drop the main gate, and the smaller gate (vertical) with a hitch in the receiver, it will leave a revised shape on your new truck gate! I think they go for about 3K to get replaced.

It can be used as a step. The truck already has step on both side of the bumper (see picture). Getting up/down from the side is as easy by holding to the bed wall.

Lots of things were fine for decades and we’ve moved on from them. Drum brakes, carburetors, two-valve heads, unventilated seats, manual hubs, etc.

If this sells trucks, GMC is doing good

On a similar note I saw a ram with a split tailgate the other day. I looked it up and you can open each side like a door or fold it down like a standard tailgate. I Couldn’t really figure out the benefit to it.

    Oh look, another mod....
The Ram's have (or had), the tailgate that opened from the middle. The F150's had the pull out step, with a hand rail, the Ridgeline had a dual opening tailgate: fold down or fold open. Tailgate gimmicks are not new.
