I will say that the tailgate being used in the picture might be the most practical use for that tailgate option.

I don't think anyone would miss it if it wasn't there. That cargo would sit there just the same with a standard tailgate.

I don't dislike the feature, but wouldn't want either. Most of these tailgate tricks are to accommodate the deletion of an 8' bed.

Can't like GM until they build a SRW Cadillac 1 ton with a real bed.

eBay has them from 3000-5000 plus. Too expensive for something isn’t needed or already exist within the truck itself.

I think it's fine for a Denali, there needs to be things to go along with the price tag of the more expensive trucks. Not every pick up in production needs a nontraditional tailgate.

When it comes to midsize and compact trucks, less is more, as more takes up valuable space, and adds unnecessary weight.

Don't really agree. They should have just used a conventional tail gate and reduced the price of the truck. Its a gm so its most likely 40% overpriced already.

You can reach 2’ further into the bed without getting into it

Probably 1/3 of posts into the 3rd gen channel/board should actually be in the off topic one.

There’s pros & cons. The tailgate open to the side allow you to reach in further vs the traditional way allow extra bed space when fold down. It’s a trade off.

This right here is why the 2nd gen guys STILL make fun of us.

You know what's another fun feature that you missed? Drop that little half door down to use it as a step, when your trailer hitch is installed, and BLAM, huge dent. I've seen it plenty.

My F150 had the step in the tailgate. At first I thought it was a gimmick but ended up really liking it. Makes getting in and out much easier.

Are we now posting anything we saw on the road. This tailgate is everywhere. Nothing new here. Next time I see a Jeep with freedom top off, I’ll post, which will be in a moment.

Not really a trade off, the Ram tailgate can open like a traditional tailgate or fold open

I like the tailgate options on the Honda Ridgeline and Ram trucks. Kind of like the older chevy Tahoes that had barn doors in the back instead of a giant heavy hatch.

This would work for me as well...

I actually just sat on one of those tailgates. It was the best thing ever. It turns into a perfect comfortable seat with a foot rest.... I would assume its a step too. It was nice.

I dont like complications like that in my life, but I was shocked that I actually enjoyed sitting there vs normally cutting the circulation off in your legs
