This is becoming comical. So who’s on 1st...ALSD OR ATRAC?

I am trying very hard to only speak from actual repeatable test data from my 3rd gen OR automatic.

(Edit: Haha, just thinking about this more. Did you think I had just the back two wheels jacked up in 4Hi or all 4. Either way, that would be a hilarious test of traction control...)

I was confirming the 34mph NOT the 30mph.

    Also....

I think the trac off mode, thanks to toyota, is confusing. Toyota should have just said system goes from TRAC to AUTO LSD to TRAC OFF, VSC OFF, and TRAILER SWAY OFF.

Instead they list TRAC to TRAC OFF/AUTO LSD on to TRAC OFF, VSC OFF, TRAILER SWAY OFF.

Once again I think there is some terminology or equipment differences in our trucks. I’m just verifying what my truck does and trying to clarify the info in this thread.

TRAC OFF - (trac off light illuminated on my dash) in my third gen is more power, no engine regulation, and NO BRAKES = NO TRACTION CONTROL.

My truck is not an off road just an SR.

Think I might have to bust out the go pro, drone, and make a new movie.

So I haven't made a new thread YET. I want everybody to throw rocks at it. I know this data is directly contrary to what people with previous generations say but I am becoming pretty confident in it. Have at it, but please please please have some backup for any input you have based on a 3rd Generation test bed (such as all the great videos everybody has been making, or more garage testing like I did).

@BigWhiteTRD awesome work with the above charts.

But let me just double check what people are saying regarding 4hi TRAC-OFF, are people saying they do not get the slip indicator light in this mod? As I do in 4HI with a single quick push of the VSC off switch(TRAC-OFF light turn on), if I'm going in a straight line and spin nothing happens but the instant the truck starts sliding or bumping off ruts the VSC system activates. 2017 OR manual if it matters(don't think it does)

I think the SR/SR5 guys would debate the 4HI TRAC OFF Differential Conditions cell. Edit: and @Cold_Toad for that matter who is in a TRD OR. The differential conditions need a different definition in that cell because it's no longer a brake simulated LSD. It's Stability Control that uses brakes.

My additions to it would be as follows:
ATRAC differential conditions should be re-worded to Brake Simulated Lockers. Giving ATRAC the same description as TRAC is unclear.
You can change all the Throttle Intervention for ATRAC and Locker cells in 4Lo to None.

The OR/Pro Manual cells would go like this

    2Hi
    Same as Auto

    4Hi
    Same as Auto

    4Lo
    Not Available
    Not Available
    Default 4Lo

    In 4Lo Press ATRAC Switch
In 4Lo Press Rear Diff Lock

In 4Lo Press ATRAC Swtich + Rear Diff Lock

This is exactly what I would expect to happen in 4HI TRAC OFF according to the way Toyota has described their systems.

The first video you made squashed it all. People just have to pay attention to the MANY things that are occurring. Tell tale signs all over the place.

While this is true for straight line traction loss I do not think it's true for big slides. Go do a big donut in 4HI TRAC OFF and I bet you VSC kicks in. TRAC and VSC are both traction aids but they kick in under different circumstances. VSC is still active in TRAC OFF.

Yeah man, coming from a ‘12 OR, I’m lovin’ the 3rd Gen TRAC. Bitchin’ system, and totally stoked overall.

The nice thing about this thread, compared to when I wrote the first set of traction control details back in 2010, is the lack of hostility (that I got from those who did not have A-TRAC or TRAC and would not believe that an onboard computer and ABS brakes could create limited slip or locker-like traction assist).

Thank you 3rd Gen Tacoma drivers! The Truth is Out There!!

is the A-Trac button still an On/Off switch (not a momentary switch). As is you hit A-Trac once any time, it is always on when later switching to 4Lo?
That is the way I think it used to be, dont know if still is?

It's a button next to the TRAC button up top.

But when you press it, does it stay pressed or pushed in (even if you restart truck), or is it like almost every other pushbutton in the truck that is just a momentary switch (electrically internally) and the computer 'remembers' you pressed it?

Ensuring I understand. You don't have data for SR5 with an auto yet.... correct?
