So.. If your in some nasty shit in 4lo A-Trac on and your wheels are spinning 15-20 mph but your forward momentum is under 5mph A-Trac will still work? Or will it cut out because the computer sees that the speedo is reading wheel spin above 5mph

Its based on wheel speed alone.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Don't need A-trac, lockers or even 4WD. Just use the e-brake.

I'm sure it's awesome when climbing or crawling but there's a time for wheel speed too.
I know it's speed regulated to prevent damage but a lil more than 5mph would help in some spots I'm sure

Starts to generate a lot of heat too, tough on brakes. Thats why they limit it to 4-5mph. And even then you really dont want to use it for an extended period of time. Under extreme circumstanced I would imagine you could experience brake fade similar to if you didnt use any downshifting on long downhill grade.

    ALOT of heat I'm sure.
I've got A-trac but have not needed to use it. Always wondered about the question I brought up after reading the manual when I bought the truck

wet rocks + bony trail + going slow so not to smash anything unnecessarily + atrac... is the bomb

all you need is one wheel with grip and atrac will find that wheel and find
that grip wherever it jumps to next

I gunned it to get out of a huge hole. First and only time I have needed it. Pic is after escaping the hole. 4 Hi only allowed me WP_20160828_08_00_55_mud 1.jpg WP_20160828_11_12_04_mud3.jpg to go back and forth for about 40'. I engaged 4lo, hit the locker and the Atrac button and just powered my way out.

A-TRAC does very well in this type of situation--steep grade, uneven & loose surface.

I have used ATRAC many times on my previous FJ and now my Taco. ATRAC only works when you are in 4low. This is what happens:
example. Going up a steep loose rocky and or rutted out trail and you are in 4 low and one wheel is slipping, press the ATRAC button...
ATRAC controls the engine output and braking system (booster). It senses the slipping stops that wheel from spinning by automatically and spontaneously braking that wheel and diverts the power to the wheels that have traction.
ATRAC is an amazing thing and have gotten me places, my buddies with only 4x4 can't make it too.
    _____
    • Active TRAC (A-TRAC) -- During 4-wheel-drive operation on a snow-covered road or in rugged off-road conditions, A-TRAC controls engine output and brake fluid pressure so that the drive force is distributed to the wheels that have traction. This enhances drivability in extreme road conditions, an effect that is similar to a Limited Slip Differential (LSD). Off-road drivability is equivalent to having the center differential locked and a Limited Slip Differential on both front and rear axles.

Definitely helps get up poor traction spots

ATRAC is also the reason the Offroads have a different brake system than the rest of the models.

I had to go up a really bad snow and ice covered old rural road that people were getting part way up, stuck and then giving up and backing down, A-Trac got me up it.
