This ATRAC stuff on TW is wild.

Everyone gets so defensive, and it always causes a dick-traction contest.

    I don't get it.

ATRAC is Toyota's cost-effective solution to a limited/locked front differential (yes, I know it regulates the rear tires). Nothing more or less. It works better than an open differential in most circumstances, and when it doesn't, you turn it off. If Toyota built a purpose-built Tacoma for off-road, without the majority of consumers in mind, or cost in mind, it would come with a selectable front locking differential, or a Torsen T2 front differential.

ATRAC is not the end-all in traction aids, and it certainly isn't shit either.

*I have now added my ¢.01 to the shit storm*

Isn't it funny how even when I say lockers were good in one condition I drove, the pro-locker/ anti a-trac mob still can't agree... so, no matter what I post here, some of you are still going to smear it. Why don't you start your own thread on how front lockers rule and it doesn't matter that Toyota doesn't offer it? This thread I started is to help explain the systems that Toyota DOES offer in the Tacoma. Christian you are so full of hate, no wonder you live on here and have 25,000 more posts than me, over the same period I have been on TW? Maybe if you had friends, life would seem kinder and you would get out more? Please stop following me, I don't want to 'play' when you say mean things.

You missing very important point here. Toyota traction control absolutely blows when you live above i-80 interstate. And that system is never off only on stanby. So unless you pull bunch of fuses, system is never trully off. Which is another annoying future.
What Toyota is doing offensive. They are catering to Cali ignoring the rest of the country and Canada.
Really we all dont live in Cali so how about truck that works in winter, where 4wd actuator does not freeze at -14F, it has more paint protecting from rust and no traction system that can't figure out you taking a corner going downhill and truck is slightly in a drift.

Sounds like a serious flaw... yet Canadian isthatahemi was one of the first big praisers of A-TRAC when I joined TW... He was furious when the first truck that had an A-TRAC equipped label turned out to not have it, and got it switched.

I wonder why some have really seen an improvemnt with A-TRAC and others have not? Is it the type of off roading or the driver that really can see having limited slip on the front helps move the truck (in most conditions)?

Meh its a crappy system thats all. If you claimed Jeep has better quality than Toyota, that would also end up in constant forum wars .

Pretty sure he did . He leased his Tacoma and blew up the rear end a couple times , he was always bitching about his truck breaking down and hated it at the end .

I think he just finally blew a fuse and lost it in a thread

Im sure the jeep didnt have lockers, nor have you ever owned any vehicles with lockers, then you would see how crappy A-Trac really is
