On that note what do you recommend parts wise I have at a minimum? I have plenty of basic tools and recovery gear and basic extras like nuts bolts duct tape and bailing wire of course. I was going to pick up a spare complete front axle anything else which you think is mandatory?

This exactly the type of terrain I was talking about when I said that A-TRAC wouldn't save my oil pan or anything. Sometimes no matter how good your line is you're going to get dinged. Line choice does count for a lot though.

I have heard that if your rear differential breaks it inevitably leads to a catastrophic fire which burns the vehicle to the ground, not sure if that's true or not.

having proper armor such as skid plate and the like is crucial to have no matter type of traction devices or type of terrain.

and just like what Jasmine has stated earlier it's about traction and ground clearance.. i know people who have wheeled their junk like they are locked, but being locked front and rear or ATRAC isnt going to help you get on a trail like aftershock if youre running stock sized tires

Two stock trucks, both with 31 or 32 inch tires, 1 with A-Trac, 1 only wheeling with rear locker. Both 4WD. The A-Trac offers more traction. Period. There is nothing available from Toyota to give you more traction. I have said adding a front locker is the only way to get more, but that in some ways A-Trac is better: cost, steering, warranty. That's all. Anytime I can go wheeling, I will.
