I watched those a couple times I gotta be honest I can't figure out what I just watched. Did one truck go a couple inches farther or something? I guess I was expecting some obstacle that one truck cleared while another couldn't.

What I think I saw was an obstacle neither truck cleared. Maybe it needs and explanation to go with it?

You know, it is possible to go to slow. It doesn't matter if your on 40's locked front and rear with a 500:1 reduction without the appropriate amount of speed you wont clear the obstacle. Even a tank on tracks can go to slow. Speed is absolutely a part of an off road equation its just a matter of that speed being appropriate for the situation.

You mentioned earlier David K had said he needed to hit the gas and with what I just saw both trucks needed more air fuel mixture going into the cylinders but thats just how it appeared to me not being there or having any perspective of what was taking place.

Anway I would have flown up and over that in 2wd and not even spilled my beer:cheers:

I don't know if this has been covered already since there's a lot "interesting" stuff I've skipped over, but they've added engine regulation to H4.

    1) The default H4 mode has engine regulation and LSD.

    2) Pressing the button once disables engine regulation and gives the TRAC OFF warning indicator.

    3) Holding the button (3 sec) disables engine regulation and LSD, giving the TRAC OFF and SLIP OFF warning indicators.

Basically, H4 now cycles modes the same way as H2...but H2 uses the AUTO LSD indicator while H4 uses the TRAC OFF indictor.

As an added bonus my truck doesn't beep when traction controls engage. The only way I know it's doing anything is because I'll hear the ABS actuating, and if I look down I'll see a flashing slip indicator light.

Wow... really... is the pair of videos showing either one working? The first (A-TRAC attempt) as soon as the the wheels meet the obstacle, the driver surrendered after like 3 seconds (maybe because he knew he didn't have to try too hard if he also had a front locker?).

The second attempt (lockers only)... the video stopped just after the obstacle stopped the truck... so we may never know???

AGAIN: Front and rear lockers are the ultimate in traction. Toyota doesn't offer front lockers. The A-TRAC is the highest level of traction you can buy from Toyota, so A-TRAC offers the driver a greater range of travel. This thread is here to explaine how A-TRAC and the other traction modes work on a Tacoma.

Is this really that hard to figure out, and why do the people with their non-Toyota mods so defensive here? Are they mad because they bought a Sprort TRD instead of an Off Road TRD? Don't be mad, but don't say A-TRAC doesn't work, either... It will get you beyond any other point in a stock Tacoma without it, or with less damage!

I'm not taking sides, and I have said it before, but David K was very helpful when I wasn't sure about all the buttons. for that David. But man, you guys can argue! Its funny to me how long you guys go on about it. Good entertainment.

quite honestly, nobody can be truly objective in this argument over the absolute capabilities of ATRAC. or how effective it can be, or cannot be while traversing advanced technical trails. unless they have done those kinds of trails themselves. any testimony or speculation in regards to how well ATRAC can work or cannot work would just be pure speculation on their part.

    Have a great weekend!

Whats funnier is there is not even a debatable topic in here. Just a bunch of folks arguing some point that was never an issue in the first place.

Here is a brief example of this thread.

    Vanilla ice cream is white.

Chocolate ice cream tastes better I cant believe you would even buy vanilla ice cream.

    100 pages later,

Chocolate ice cream can stay colder longer than vanilla ice cream

This thread is not about chocolate ice cream or taste.

It doesn't matter because strawberry makes the best shakes.
