I came across this video where a Toyota spokesman says something along the lines of "non-TRDs feature 4WDemand, A-TRAC. And TRDs feature locking rear differentials."

The way he said it makes me question whether the TRDs (Off Road specifically) get A-TRAC...

I know it would be ridiculous if they didn't, but anyone have any other info on this?

It's right around 3:50 in this video.

In all of his videos this marketing guy doesn't really seem to actually know what he's talking about. Gets lots of details wrong.

The TRD-OR AT will have ATRAC but its upgraded to multi-terrain select. MTS is basically a user-adjustable ATRAC. If you want more wheel spin set it to mud, and if you want no wheel spin set it to the other end, rocks I suppose. And this goes hand in hand with crawl control as they demo with that digging out of sand stunt.

I interpret this to mean that he scrublords with their manual transmissions shall receive a toggle switch for ATRAC, like existing trucks, instead of a knob. No one has seen a manual TRD-OR so I am speculating on this part.

Read page 11 of this and put your mind at ease http://www.tfltruck.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/2016-toyota-Tacoma-Product-Info.pdf. It states that ATRAC is on the TRDOR MT. Although it one lumps the locker with MTS making it seem that the locker is AT only, but other documents say the locker standard with either transmission, and that makes more sense.

That guy has made other mistakes in earlier, shorter videos. Only the OR models come with ATRAC.

All the rest have TRAC which has less powerful braking

Yeah, I did notice a few other inaccuracies from this guy...

Crawl Control replacing A-TRAC doesn't make sense because then there's no mode for driver-controlled throttle with limited slippage.

MTS replacing A-TRAC makes more sense. (For some reason I was thinking MTS was mainly just about throttle and rpm regulation.) But if MTS is supposed to replace A-TRAC, then why does the 4Runner have both?

A-TRAC is definitely discontinued on all models except the M/T.
Crawl control is available on the A/T Off-Road models.

So we don't get an electronic limited slip front differential unless we are using crawl control?

The ATRAC traction control was called an "Electronic" limited slip differential because it used the brakes to keep each tire turning at the same speed

That would be a electronic limited slip.

Oh, thank you. That comes from using ATRAC, so that is gone unless you use Crawl Control?

I fixed it, but the front LSD was based on ATRAC at low speed. Will that not happen between 0 and 3mph when using the throttle?

You can use the multi terrain select ( which I think is basically selectable atrac?) without crawl control.

Was this the same guy that said the TRD Pro shocks are like those on dump trucks?
