On 9-11 I was with a student pilot on instrument training flt when the national airspace was closed down. ABQ center asked for our intentions, either return to departure city or continue as filed. I confirmed the return. Within 10 mins a A-10 was off my wing checking us out wagging his wings. By then, we received clearance into controlled airspace and the A-10 bolted. Mind you, I was in a Cessna 172 and this A-10 was in a nose up attitude in slow flight. Pretty intense since we had no idea why the airspace had closed down until we walked into the FBO and saw a plane flying into the 2nd Tower.
That's my experience with a warthog

OP, I believe this a Maryland Hawg.
If you look hard, you can see the 30mm projectile at the front of the smoke cloud.

    Better shot of the projectile.

LOVE these aircraft... I was able to help on a transient one time when I was in the Airforce to do a pitot static leak check and help troubleshoot a broken line. Was a good thing we found the issue quickly and was able to repair it within that day so they could make it back to their home Base.

    Thanks for sharing the pictures!

    When you were a kid?

Hell.... toss in the P51D and you've got my three favorite of any time in my life.

Even when the MD80 put food on the table, my true loves were faster or had guns.

The 80's is when I was an impressionable kid. Thanks to Top Gun, the F-14 was 3rd, and the Mustang comes in 4th. I gotta say, I love the way the Mustang sounds. If you've ever heard one fly, you know what I mean.

    I live in Chino.

Legacy overflights of some kind are almost a weekly thing with the Planes of Fame museum at the Chino airport.

Most times we'll be in a parking lot and hear the unmistakable radials of a pair of birds, but every now and then it'll be a group escorting a bomber.

Museum's web site is down, but here's their Wiki page.

You should come out here to Davis-Monthan. A-10s and HH-60s overhead all day long. When I moved out of my mom's house I didn't want to leave the area because of all the cool stuff that flies over.
