The gold round things are fasteners, they're gold because they are cad plated. They can be painted black easily and will most likely be black in production models unless someone wants the gold, they're all virtually invisible anyway.
They do and don't screw into the dash, that's part of the trick and beauty of this project. It will be revealed once the first units are sold.

im doing my best to have some ready by next month. I don't want to make promises though because I want to make sure these are well made, I'd rather wait a bit longer than put out a half baked product.

This is why I love this site. I'm looking for solutions for phone, iPad mini, and CB. This may work!

I'm road tripping from Texas through NM and up to CO.... man am i looking forward to this to finally get rid of one not-quite-there solution after another for the phone.

and for this trip, i just HAD to free up the A/C vent for the road. way too hot for losing all my vent opening from the Hondo, which is still a very nice piece, just not great for super hot climates.

One of the great advantages of this mount is that it will be able to hold multiple devices/accessories securely.
I've been using it with a ram phone mount and I'm really happy with it, if anything the weakness is the RAM mount itself, and that's only because I find it takes more effort than I would like to turn the phone into or out of portait/landscape mode.
You can't just place the phone in whichever orientation you need, you actually have to change the orientation of the mount itself. Only a minor problem, especially if you don't switch orientations often.
    I do.

I'm excited about this. I've been going back and forth on the Hondo mount, but didn't want to lose any of my vent function. This looks like a great solution. I'm wanting to ram mount my iphone 6S plus right where you've got your mount in your photo. Following for sure.

Count me in, also! Following this thread as I am definitely interested. Already tried a couple home made mounts that didn't work out!

    Yes! The mount is complete!
Production is behind a bit but the first few will be out by the end of the month. That being said, there have been some complications with the installation, given that you DO have to drill into your dash panel. I'm working on a plug and play solution and THAT is the main reason for the delay.
I will be making a longer post tonight where I will go into more detail about these first units and how to get them.

    Looking forward to it,
    FreshMexicanTaco!

I should add that I have no problem with drilling the dash. As you mentioned early on, it is in a place that will likely not be noticed, if you did remove it. Plus, if you were selling your Taco, you could just pick up a replacement trim piece for it.
    Thank you again!

Excited to see the cost of these! I have the Hondo now but hate how I lose one of the vents...

You wont loose no vents here...
you can even hook up a 10" iPad and hardly loose any visibility or vents.
I did loose a little visibility the way it is mounted in that last picture but the ram mount can be adjusted so that it sits lower for better visibility

I don’t have an issue with drilling neither. I am curious to see how these work without having to drill into the trim though... sub’d
