So a guy at work, lets call him the Harley D. guy>>> buys himself a fancy 40k plus GMC Canyon and proceeds to tell me all about how great it is, how better then my plain ole 2015 Taco etc etc..
I gotta admit it looked good... then he says "watch this". Hits a button on the key fob and auto starts it. Wow I say....playing along. I get in the driver seat and admire the 40k access cab truck for 90 seconds.
Get out and he jumps in, places key in ignition....um, um....."shit my truck won't shut off". Yep it auto started and would not shut off with the key..... I quietly excused myself and heard muffled curses all the way back to the main building.... bahahhhahhaaa...... GM quality strikes again. :)

FYI it ended up being a faulty steering column lock that disabled the key but not auto start. But with like 20 miles on the truck I can't wait to see what this fine vehicle does at say... 10,000 miles. Wow

Someone spent $40k on a GMC Canyon? Humanity never ceases to amaze.

Hmm...how does the steering column disable the key? Is that what he told you? Curious to hear more.

After you remote start the truck - you get in, put the key in the ignition and turn it to the ON position (like you would any other time) - but obviously, it won't crank because it's already started. Then...after doing that, you can effectively turn the truck off like you would any other time. You can't turn the truck off unless the key is first in the ON position.

Was the steering wheel in the locked position and all he needed to do was turn the wheel slightly enough to insert and turn the key?

I didn't stay there until he figured it out what was wrong but the key appeared to be turning in his hand when he said it wasn't shutting off. Not familiar with that truck but seems like a guy in his late fifties that knows how to rebuild HD motorcycles would be able to make the call if it was non functional. Agree not sure how the key, column and remote start all played in this but his expression of disgust that it wasn't turning off was priceless.

damn it..... I came home today because the wind picked up and the rain to check on house... Florida pre storm crap... and you were right Jimmy, should have kept my mouth shut! For no damn reason my boat motor trimmed itself up all the way and locked trying to go up until it fried the battery. Nothing touching the trim switch on the outboard or the throttle. Ghost? or I pissed off the GMC gods for sure. Lesson learned and hopefully didn't cost me a trim/tilt motor plus a battery on the boat.

I wish you the best of luck. I heard if you sacrifice a chicken and rub the blood on it the spell will cancel out and karma will be appeased.
