A340 no 4th gear

    2003 tacoma 4x4 auto trans

    Recently had ball joint failure going down the road. Shop warrantied ball joints and ended up putting a hole in my radiator while trying to move the truck without the wheel. Replaced radiator and refilled trans and coolant.

    starter went out while it was at the shop and I did not trust them to do it so I hauled it back home and changed it myself. Went to drive it and trans was not shifting right. I have 1-2-3 but now 4. Shifts are off revs a little higher than normal. When in 3rd I can’t go faster than 25mph at around 4-4.5k rpm.

    Drained as much fluid as I could and it was pretty burnt. Replaced fluid with dex III i believe and didn’t fix anything. Took trans pan off and changed filter. New filter and oil still no change. Where should I start? Solenoid? Valve body? Whole trans?

    Most trans cant survive the ATF being flooded with coolant. It sounds like you've done what you can. Shy of a tear down with new parts in hand there's not much you can do.

    3rz to 2Rz bebuilt block and new heads
    Always check that kick down cable coming of the TB....if its disturbed/binded or out of adjustment, shifting gets wacky
