Hi all sorry if this is not the correct place for this issue I’m having.

    I have a 2002 Tacoma 3.7L with the
    A340F transmission.
While driving I lost all power between engine and tires.
Engine runs but won’t move in 4wd or any gears.
No check engine or transmission light.
I had plenty of fluid but it was brown.
Changed fluid and filter but still no change.
Grinding noise from front of the transmission leading me to believe it is the torque converter.
I guess I was just wondering if anybody else has had these same issues and could give me any advice.
I’m no mechanic but would like to learn and fix it myself.

Time to take it to a transmission shop. Unless you have all the tools, just getting the transmission out is a challenge for GOOD home garages. But the cost to get all that would ultimately out weigh the cost to have a shop work on it.

If you're hearing grinding, it's probably a broken flex plate. There is a plate you can remove to see the flex plate, but the usually shear in the middle, so not sure how much you'd be able to see.

I appreciate the reply. Will look into the flex plate. Gonna continue doing it myself.

Does it move in 2wd? Make sure its the transmission and not the transfer case. If it is the transmission take it out yourself and have a transmission shop rebuild it or buy a reman from jasper or such. Make sure you replace the radiator too.
