A44D & A43D Trannys compatible?

I have a tacoma A44D transmission that just went out. I found a A43D transmision at a junkyard with 80,000 miles. Are the A44D and A43D compatible even though the A44D is electronically controlled and A43D is controlled by throttle position and a governor??

 

might want to edit your title, you have the same trans listed.

as far as compatible, for starters no. but someone may have been able to transfer parts from one to the other for the electronically controlled model.

All the electrical connectors in the same place and it looks like it will slide right in but i want to make sure before i drop a G

 

@frizzman are u saying that a43 could go in place of an a44 but an a44 couldn't go in a43 model? because the electronically controlled part is probably built in to the vehicle separate the transmission? i have a 2001 and the donor is a 99... can't find any other trannys other than the 43. any help is much appreciated, thanks

actually the opposite. They may have the same "housing" but the electronically controlled parts may need to be transferred over to replace the "governed" parts.

I am no expert so this is just speculation

@gearcruncher any thoughts?

This transmission is electronically controlled by an electronic shift control module. Mechanically similar to the A43D.

I am no pro at what year fits as I always repaired the original transmission .
Your best bet is calling your local auto wrecker . They know what years will work and what wont work .
With this being said , I doubt you can swap from a cable operated transmission and go electronic . It just doesnt work that way

Did you try calling the wrecking yards ?

Going from electronic to manual means valve body swaps as well as the output shaft . I highly doubt what you want to do is possible

Why not fix the trans in your truck . A rebuild kit is $250 and a converter is $150 . You may need some valve body components

I don't know about transmissions, but transfer cases are 100$ from Junkyards and I just got one of Ebay for 90$... Might wanna take a look...

Did you ask them what years will fit in your truck ?
Did you ask them if you can take the valve body off your transmission and install it on the second hand transmission ?
Did you request they do a transmission search on the national hotline ?
