This weekend was the first time I had gone seriously off-roading in my truck since I installed my scan gauge 3 and towards the end of the day while in 4wd and climbing a steep incline at a very high altitude I noticed my A/T 2 temperatures reaching 224F , remained lower at the pan (A/T 1) was about 199F.. was a subtle burning smell too lol. There wasn't any codes set or lights illuminated but I stopped as soon as i noticed and let the truck idle and cool down for about 10 minutes before turning it around and calling it a day. Everything seemed to go back to normal after that but I'm just curious if I potentially did any damage? My truck does have the dinky oem trans cooler w/ the tow package . My truck also has 173k miles on the clock . I also run 33s and carry quite a bit of gear.

224 isn't excessive, it's on the higher end of where you want it to be normally but it's not overheating.

is your gauge on the trans output?

That can make temps over 250-300 when the TC is unlocked

Better to monitor the trans temp and not the hot pipe out of the trans

Good time to do a drain and fill just to check the condition of the oil. Chances are good everything is ok though.
