AAL install: 0verload or no overload

    So I am getting the Icon AAL installed tomorrow and wanted the opinion of the pros here. Remove the overload or leave it on. Pros, cons?

    I havent seen a single person complain either way honestly.... ill be watching this.

    In (overload) gives u a half inch or so of extra height i think.

    Out well, puts u at 1.5" iirc.

    Ive had mine without overload for a few yrs and never regretted it.

    Throw some marine grease between the leaves with a long knife blade or other instrument.

    Make sure u have em correctly setup, theres a front and a rear section. (Forward facing and rear facing if that makes more sense.... itll be in the instructions)

    I got the 3 leaf AAL and kept the overload spring in, ended up giving me rake in the rear as I only lifted about an inch and a half in the front.

    If you plan on hauling substantial weight or towing then you should leave it in. It does make the ride a little stiffer.

    2.85 supercharged Baja, is the same setup I have. I left them out, with 265/70R17s. Matches exceptionally well with the front suspension and I highly recommend it. My truck is used for light home owner duty; mulch, tools, furniture, appliances, dump runs, works great. If you do heavy hauling or towing it would likely be a better bet as mentioned above.

    Id also suggest wheelers superbumps for those times ur really loaded down and bottom out.

    I too have a BAJA, I left it out. 1.75 in front - 1.50 rear it has just a bit of a rake....perfect.

    Once I finally get the toytec spring seat spacer in I'll put the overload in to keep the rake it has. The whole truck will obviously be an inch higher though.

    Like , crashnburn, I use my bed for light home duty stuff. If I did any significant hauling or towing the overload would've been in from the start.

    I am planning on getting the toytec spacers and 285/75/16. With this in mind, I'm thinking keep the overload and in the end I'll have just a super slight rake. In the meantime, I'll probably be just about perfectly level.

    Good man:thumbsup:, I'm on 285's as well. Itl have the same stance. I figured the same thing. If I get the toytec spacers in before I put the overload back in it should sit level.

    Did you get the 285/70 or 75's? Any rubbing issues??

    I left mine in with a Deaver AAL 1.5 and it rides soft and supports my boats tongue weight with less sag.

    I had to google that 1, i didnt know deaver made a progressive till now, thanks.
    But $300.... iirc icon is 200

    I have 285/70/17. No rubbing but I had already removed my mud flaps and did trim a very minor small amount of plastic along the front inner part of the wheel wells. You gotta remember too though, I don't run the BAJA wheels either.

    So I've decided to remove the overload. I'll be sure to keep it in the event I want to put it back on. Once I get the spacers. I'll probably want to use it.

    Good move. If you like the rake once you have the AAL on and without the toytec spacers on, You'll want it later. I think putting it on now without the spacers would leave you with too much rake.....unless your getting those toytecs done very soon.

    I did the same thing. If I decide to go a little higher later, I can always swap it back in. You will just need new longer center pins, since cutting them during the install for the bump stops will likely leave them too short for reuse with the overload.

    Install complete, and what a difference. I know they say 1.5", but it seams higher. Truck looks a hair ass high, but that's probably because I am used to looking at it ass low. Threw a level on it, and it reads perfectly flat. Overall, I really like it. Once it settles just a bit I think I will be really happy with it. Now gotta get those spacers and lift the front. I think I'll get the 285/75 at the same time, since I'm going to need an alignment.

    Very glad I decided to remove the overload. Would have been too high with them.
